Father, must I go to work? No, my lucky son. We're living now on Easy Street On dough from Washington. We've let it up to Uncle Sam, So don't get exercised. Nobody has to give a damn- We've all been subsidized. But if Sam treats us all so well And feeds us milk and honey, Please, daddy, tell me what the hell He's going to use for money. Don't worry, bub, there's not a hitch In this here noble plan- He simply soaks the filthy rich And helps the common man. But, father, won't there come a time When they run out of cash And we have left them not a dime When things will go to smash? My faith in you is shrinking, son, You nosy little brat; You do too damn much thinking, son, To be a Democrat. (Attributed to "a prominent Democrat of the State of Georgia" and published in the Congressional Record, care to guess the year?)

OK, I'll give you JFK, his tax cuts got the economy out of the early 60's doldrums. But, FDR? Methinks you've hoisted a few too many steins of Kool-Aid. Poem published circa 1948 in congressional record, if you can believe stuff you stumble onto on the internet.

Ching, I generational welfare still available or was that abolished in 1996? Please do not confuse SSDI with welfare.

I'm too simplistic not to get confused about all the forms of welfare, what with all the forms of government assistance checks, WIC, Food Stamps, Medicaid, School Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner programs, Federal Baby-Sitting Service, and on, and on. OK, maybe I made up the FBBS, but it's not far off the mark, pretty sure there are tax credits and federally subsidized child care programs. It's easy to get confused with so many welfare programs out there. No, generational welfare was not abolished in 1996. Newt managed to put in some reforms, but the Welfare State lives on and the time has come that we are out of cash, out of credit, and things are going to smash. The central theme of the OWS generation seems to be a demand for soaking the rich to help the common man. It's been a common demand of Democrats and the looney left for generations.

Now that is an example of Olympic caliber revisionist history.

Perhaps you'd like to expand on that... Shirley, you are not suggesting that President Clinton (D) was pushing for welfare reform and Speaker Newt (R) and Senate Majority Leader Lott (R) just couldn't rally their troops to defend the welfare system? (Nah, even Pat ain't that confused....Perhaps it was "some reforms" he objected to... I will amend my statement...I'll do anything to please Pat.) Speaker Gingrich and Senate Majority Leader Lott accomplished significant reforms to one major welfare program. However, the Welfare State, in the form of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (reformed AFDC), unemployment insurance, SSDI, SS, Pell Grants, subsidized student loans, farm subsidies, bailout of the UAW, the programs listed in the previous post, the programs I can't think of off the top of my head, the programs I've never heard of,...lives on. In short, there remain plenty of government hand-outs, and generational dependence on welfare lives on. However, I will applaude Newt his Olympic caliber feat of producing significant reforms to the one welfare program most harmful to the poor. Former Speaker of the House, and the next President of the United States, Newt Gingrich!!!

Everything you list are the ingredients to the most successful economic system in history which is the blended system. Is it hitting a few bumps now? You betcha (to coin a phrase). However, does it have the resources to bounce back? Absolutely!
Newt will be the Bob Dole of 2012.

As much as it pains me Obama is assured another four years because the REPUBS can't come up with a good person to beat him,I agree with hoolligan on this one,and I hadn't started on the cool aid yet.

Chief, as a son of the South, methinks you were raised on "Mr. Roosevelt gonna save us all" flavored Kool-Aid. Comparing Newt to Mr. Dull is even sillier than comparing Mr. Lingbergh to Adolph. Newt is flawed, but will come off as accomplished, competent, smart (to the point of seeming like an egg-head), will motivate the base, and most importantly, is not the guy that's been in office for four years of the worst economy since you know when. Newt the next Bob Dull? Geez, Pat, you are confused.

You guys need to keep in mind who the other half of the ticket will be. Unless they have a secret handshake, we know it will be Obama and Biden on the socialist side. We don't know who the Repubs 1 & 2 will be. I can see the Repub's, Mod's, Indies and some Blue Dog's coalesce around the Repub ticket once the pecking order is determined. The media tries to artificially paint Obama as an accomplished Prez. The facts don't support that. Once the real debates start, there are ample facts to work with. I've said this before...whomever the Repub ticket is, they will need to be great public speakers and have logical solutions to our problems most of our country can live with. I think Newt, Mitt, Herm, Rick and Michelle are very good public speakers. Perry and Paul not so. At the end of the day after everything is laid out on the table for the voters to see, I predict Obama and Biden will be defeated by a fairly large margin....maybe 5% - 7% of the popular vote.

I seems as confused as Pat, but you put Rick in the very good speaker group, but Perry in the "not so" camp. But I'm used to being baffled by airdales. (smileywink) If anybody is the Bob Dull of 2012, it's Mitt. No enthusiasm from the right, but they (we) will vote for him, as will the mushy middle who decides elections. Mitt would defeat Obama by a greater margin than the other candidates, and still has a good chance of winning the nomination. Mitt would be OK, I suppose... Newt is very accomplished, very competent, and very confident, but a little bit scary. He may not be able to defeat Obama with the same margin Mitt would, but he would win, and he'd be the better President. The others; Rick, the other Rick, (I figured it out, though an airdale, TVC is rarely makes mistakes), Herman, Michelle and the rest, are, like Sarah, historical footnotes, at least through 2012.

I could go either way with Rick (Santorum). He seemed to have a command of the questions for the most part. Concur about Newty. I think Newty has taken a page from Chris Christy as far as being straight shooting, tell it like he sees it. That style seems to resonate with many folks. I'm not sure Mitt has that killer instinct. I listened to Herm's lawyer's PR release about that new gal who claimed to have a 13 yr fling with Herm. The statement was lame. A red flag went up in my head. On the flip, the newest gal has a track record of litigation too. We'll see. But anyway....I think the Herm maybe fading soon. BTW....did you see Gov Christy's shot he took at Prez Obama about the failure of the Super Committee? The Gov tore the Prez apart.

John,
Rumor has it Biden will step down. Look for a center line Dem from say Wisconsin or Illinois as a possibility for VP. Rick Sanitarium couldn't get arrested let alone elected.

I haven't heard that Biden rumor yet. I did see Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen, two Dems, went public and said Prez Obama should step down and let Hillary take over. Now that some prominent, respected Dems have called for the Prez to step aside, I'll go out on a limb and say other well known Dem's will do the same soon. I'm not sure if the die hard Libs will, but I see some Dem's starting to line up against him. Gallup just came out with their poll and said Prez Obama's job approval rating is now lower than Prez Carter's at this stage of their Presidency. That ain't good for the Bamster.
