So will they allow those that are presently competing for other specialties (PY2009) put their name in the hat if they are short of lateral applicants? Or will they have to wait another cycle and go to the next board?

I think this is how it is going to work guys....They have said there is going to by a ME Warrant Path. However. CWO Applications are due in by November if my memory serves me correctly (I could be a bit off). They have already said that you will not find out if you are going to be accepted to lateral until January at the earliest. This means if you are submitting your CWO Application in November then it will NOT be for the ME Path. You will have to submit for what ever path is in line with your rate. You will NOT be automatically switched over to the ME application if you had you're application in for another rate. From my understanding, the earliest we can submit a CWO Application would be for the 2011 Selection.
I've been asking about this a lot and these are the answers I've been receiving. I am hopefully making Chief July 1st or August 1st and intend on switching rates. I too want to compete for CWO in the ME line but it appears it will have to wait until next year. If a message does come out though....stating that we can compete for 2010...Good Luck everyone!!!
IMHO, I would think CWOs in other specialties would have first crack at lateraling to the ME(S) specialty before folks being promoted from the enlisted ratings.
