Just received word that I'm going to be in 4th ID, 1st Brigade, but that is it until I get there because I was told that they are over-manned. The Brigade (all most all of it I'm told)is in CA training. I couldn't get anymore information because I have not in-processed yet (that will happen mid Sept. If anyone knows if they are going to be sending out more people to train for the deployment in Dec or if that is it, can you let me know? If I'm going to be deployed, I'm leaving the family in GA until I get back. Thanks for any information that you can provide.
The upcoming deployment is public information provided by the Pentagon itself.
You would not go to Erwin on your own to train. the training is mostly for upper command to show they can command and control a large force.
Individuals do receive outstanding training though because they are the pawns on the chessboard and learn how to operate within their teams. It builds cohesion at the lowest levels.
When you get to 4th Division, they may divert you to a different Brigade than what your assignment pinpoints.
No, I am not with the Division. Just an old Soldier with nothing better to do but read online all the time.
This summer there has been quite a few new board members here that have stated they are going to Carson for 4ID. There have also been some new medics stating that. There is also a father here whose son has just arrived at 4ID.
If I remember right, they said the barracks are new. A forum search might help.
Another smart*ss pogue private. There sure are alot of you in IET these days. Hopefully your unit is squared away and gets rid of your lack of military bearing.
You ***-u-me alot. Number 1: I am not IET. I'm a prior service member with 8 years experience in ACTIVE DUTY!!. I don't appreciate how you are responding to someone you don't even know. If you don't appreciate or even like what I have to say, then you just need to stay off of my post. Obviously you are not providing any feedback that I am looking for. Oh and by the way, my wife knows more about OPSEC than you do. If you need more clarification, go to this link, then notify the webmaster that they are in the wrong and violating OPSEC.
I would figure that 8 years ACTIVE DUTY would have taught you not to listen to dumb **** like "the unit is over manned". Also you are a 68W? Why are you on the Infantry forum?
I"m posting on infantry because infantry is where I have been assigned. The "dumb ***" that told me "the unit was over manned" was a 1st LT. I"m not taking that as "God" but that was what I was told. Anyway, what does your post have to do with my initial question? I think I clearly stated why I am on a infantry board, obviously you all don't want to take the time to even answer my question w/o feeling the need to feed your inferiority complex. Great to know I'm I'm going to be taking care of guys like you. ((rolls eyes)) By the way, anybody can be in infantry, it takes many to make up a infantry unit not just MOS infantry specified people. Obviously you all don't take the time to look around at your unit!
Thanks Wendell for the information it was greatly appreciated.
I came to Hood in March and went to 1ID but I know a lot of people had orders to 1CD and got switched to 3BDE 1ID...This obviously doesn't happen to everyone, one of my friends went to 1BDE 4ID. Just be aware that when you show up to 21st Replacement Company you can get pulled anywhere on post if they need you. It only happens to a few people but I've seen it happen at least a dozen times.
My son is a 68W with 2BCT at Fort Carson. The Brigade made the move from Fort Hood in March. The 1BCT could be over strength due to the fact that 2BCT Soldiers were given the option to stay at Hood instead of making the move to Carson.
Thanks to Nate and ASA for the information. Anymore info is also helpful. Craftiest, I am not prior infantry, but who better to learn about 4ID than from someone who is? Also, since I will be working and sweating with this group, I want to be able to gather as much information as I can.
I didnt think the opsec response to you was kind, and I am sorry you were disrepected that way. However just a suggestion especially going to an infantry unit. the comment that anyone can be infantry will not win you many points with your unit. That was the reason for my question if you are prior infantry. I havent met an infantryman that would say that. And it has nothing to do with Ego. Its just a fact.
I was personally anti-tank infantry and went to ILRRP School in germany I can not only identify over 450 different tracked and wheeled vehicles but I can also tell you who manufactures them range armorment countries who employ them heat signatures night time signatures. And thats just the tip of the spear. That doesnt even begin to really get into life of an infantryman, that was just a quick easy example. So please realize that respect does go 2 ways and if you cant respect the life of an infantry soldier and think he is just some dumb kid then why would you want to save that kid on the battlefield.
The way you pointed it out that "anyone can be infantry" is not the way I meant it. I know that it takes a certain kind of soldier to go out and be "ground pounders" and I have a lot of respect for anyone who is infantry. The way that I meant it was that just because someone is not an 11B doesn't necessarily mean that they are not considered infantry. Since you are a prior infantryman, you know that those that are part of the unit train like you all do, to not only build up to what you do, but to more of a cohesive unit that works and plays together. My main intent is that it takes more than someone in the infantry MOS to make up an infantry unit and by no means was meant to disrespect you, those before and those that will come after in your place.
Hooray for your "ACTIVE DUTY" Glad you could make me aware that your active service is better than my reserve component duties. I did 4 years active. Can I be in the cool club with you? If that's not what you meant by your bold letters than I appologize for the missunderstanding. I'm also glad that your wife knows much more than I do about OPSEC. That's what PAOs are for. I would also like to take the time to appologize for upsetting you and responding to you in a manor which you disliked. If you would like your status to be recognized then I suggest you take your profile off of private. But that is your business and I'll leave that to you. But don't expect to be a smart*ss and get nothing fired back.
The same can be said for you. Now that we have gotten all of this out of the way, maybe we can get back to the point of the forum: getting advice. I'm not here to keep sh*t going; after all, we are all in the same Army and in the same fight. No reason why we can't things go and move on from here.
Now we can be friends. Have fun in 4th ID. 1st is a good BCT. At least you missed out on being stationed at Hood. AKA "The Great Place". Kinda sucks but that's just my opinion. If you like trashy bars and a trashy neighborhood then it'd be a nice fit. Not too bad once you get away from Killeen though.
