Which is better, the M-16 or the Enemy AK-47?

I heard from a few folks a while back that the AK-47 is more powerful, higher caliber bullet, easier to fire, etc. I want to hear from experts however.

The best Army in the world uses the M-16 for a reason.

ROFL, sigh, ok - STOP.

STOP, cease & desist all posting, typing, social interaction now on these boards.

Feel free to read, absorb information, browse, but refrain from asking dips.h.it questions. Kay?

Ask your questions in the wannabe forum. And don't ask foolish "Blank VS Blank" type s.h.it.

Yes I am a recruit on a Delayed Entry Program. I did not know how to describe it in my profile. I am considered to be in the Reserve component before I ship out in late July.

Thats the kind of question that belongs on those rediculous top ten lists on the military channel but no where near serious discussions about the military.

Ok, well here's what you're going to do.

Access your profile,

click the "update your profile" in the upper right corner,

click on C Your military profile,

scroll down to either "other, military program" or "considering joining" and click it.

Knock that out, and get back into the wannabe forum.

Hooah?

Exactly right, he can keep the rank display if it was given to him by the Army at DEP-IN.

See you should be a Mod, you have a knack for it. Cool

What you should have asked was, what is the coolest weapon, the M-16 or the AK-47. Or you could have asked, which one is the prettiest. Are you sure you want to go through with this whole basic training thing?

Report: Iraq to spend $3B on U.S. military gear
Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Friday, May 23, 2008

Iraq is becoming one of the largest customers for U.S. arms, as the country turns from Soviet-bloc weapons to pricier but more sophisticated American weapons, USA Today reported Thursday.

Iraq’s government has committed nearly $3 billion for U.S. weapons and equipment over the past year, the paper reported.

"This is a substantial amount of money that they put on the table," Joseph Benkert, deputy assistant secretary of defense for global security affairs, told USA Today.

Iraq is now among the top current purchasers of U.S. military equipment through the foreign military sales program, with notable purchases of the Humvee, and M-4 and M-16 rifles, the paper wrote, citing military contract records.

Iraqi officers saw the superiority of U.S. equipment in the 1991 Gulf War and during the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, John Pike of military think tank GlobalSecurity.org told the paper. "We took on the Iraq army twice and we made short work of them both times."

Iraq’s army is trading its AK-47 assault rifles for the more accurate U.S. M-16 and M-4 rifles, Army Col. Gregory Perchatsch, deputy director of the U.S. Security Assistance Office in Iraq, told USA Today.

U.S. equipment has a reputation of being generally better quality, but sometimes more difficult to operate and maintain. AK-47s are generally suited for less developed militaries, USA Today wrote.

"Give it another five, six or eight years and you could be talking about deals that put the Saudis to shame," Pike is quoted as saying. The oil-rich Saudis have bought American fighters and armored vehicles worth billions of dollars.

People who can't keep a weapon clean = AK-47
(less developed military, local yokals)

People who know how to clean a weapon and view it as an extension of their life = M-16
(a professional soldier)

Just want to clarify my remarks earlier because they were partly misinterpreted. Poster in question can post here with questions concerning Infantry MOS or Infantry tactics / operations.

The Wannabe Forum is really intended for questions surrounding enlistment issues and intro questions on life in the Army.

Speaking of the History Channel and ridiculous s**t, did anyone notice that when Mail Call was singing the XM-8's praises that they had an Engineer officer showing the damn thing off? That might have something to do with why the XM-8 did great on the trials right up to the 'field' stage (i.e. when they finally let infantrymen play with it). Wink Gun

Thats why I stopped watching that show on the discovery channel called "future weapons".

Its just a plug for the weapons industry.

Half the systems are just regurgitated versions of s.hit already in stock/use.

I think MAIL CALL was just trying to be fair; when they aired the show, virtually EVERYONE was expecting the XM-8 to be adopted. And R. Lee Ermey was in back when there were real show-stopping problems with the M16, so naturally he would be enthusiastic about a potential replacement for it. Still, he IS just the host of the show, and not necessarily in charge of content.

Same here. Every show features a different rocket/missile launcher, all basically do the same thing. That host finally got on my nerves.
