Ok, first off I just enlisted and man am I exctited. I relize that this is my purpose in life and what im good at( that being a leader and being in the army and being a "hero"), not to sound wierd, haha. Anyway I ship to fort benning in jan. 6. Im not in bad shape at all. But i would like for my drill sargent to recommended me for rangers so i would like to get in amazing shape.

So what are or what did you use as a physical guide or routine to get you prepared for basic? I read the book they give you and as helpfull as it was, the print is to small lol.

I also heard that as fort benning, even if you didnt get airborne on your contract, they will sometimes ask certain people to go airborne, I WANT TO BE THAT GUY. So how do i prepare and look good?

I want to be a great soldier and follow in my grandfather who was a WW2 hero(arnold brown) he was infantry and i just wanna do my best and be awesome.

My goal is too finish these four years as 11B or C then go speacil forces. I just was hopein all you wise and experinced people could or can help me. Thank you so much and im happy to be a grunt Smile

Look at what this young man is doing to reach the goal line.

http://forums.military.com/eve...432001#5410031432001

You have 97 days.
Get off the coach and get busy.
Say goodbye to eating fast food and drinking sugar laden carbonated drinks.
No more french fries, mayonaise and milkshakes.

Drop right this second and knock out 50 push-ups.
I am not kidding.

So, you enlisted without Airborne and Ranger in your contract, huh. Why'd you do that? Never leave your fate to someone else. Especially if it's someone higher ranking than you that you can't go and yell at.
I did that when I enlisted. It's taken me six years to get the ball back in my court. Trust me fella, you don't want to ever give an ounce of control to the Army that you don't have to.
Milk the Army, or the Army will milk you. Fact.
And check out the link the Judge posted. I like that workout plan... Wink

Sorry Judge, but I can't resist....

Get off the coach? What if she's hot and gives him one helluva workout?

Sorry.....it was just too ripe for the picking.

Not trying to burst your bubble here but 35 pushups will barely get you out of basic. You have a long way to go to get a Ranger offer. If your DS is worth a crap hes only going to hand those out to PT Studs. You need to as close to 300 as possible, you are going to have 30+ other recruits fighting for those 1 or 2 Ranger slots.

Also, I understand what you are saying about wanting to be a hero. But, be carefull with that. A soldier trying to be a hero will get themselfs or worse somebody else killed. Keep you head down, your mouth shut and do what your told... The hero part comes later when you tell your grandkids stories.

Imma work out hard, every day. And i will get that ranger slot Smile. and i understand the hero thing. Ill be smart. So so far i wake up run 2 miles then push up and sit ups then shower then more push up and sits up then break then shower then more then run at night and after do more then sleep and repeat. Also trying to learn that book they handed out.

Imma is Erma's sister.
Erma always had the coldest beer in Cusseta GA.
Place was a dive, but it had plenty of pool tables, greasy burgers and pickled eggs and stinky weenies on the bar.

Most of all, she loved everyone of us boys.

SLow your roll, Hero. Nobody was really making fun of you, so much as we were making fun of your word choice. If you're going to be in the Infantry, you had better grow a thicker skin than this or you'll be crying yourself to sleep every night. No lie.
Do not disrespect veterans on these boards. Who the hell to you think you are to counter their years of service, sacrifice, and true heroism? You're nothing more than a bag of bones with a misfiring brain. Think about THAT before you insult someone here.

I'd suggest you lose the chip on your shoulder before you enlist. Show up at your unit with it, see what happens.

Spelling, punctuation and grammar all are a reflection on you. You don't care about it. What's it tell us about you? Think about that one. All we see is what you write.

You'll find, a lot of times all someone knows about you is when they read something you've written. All of us make mistakes, everyone does. But take some pride in your personal presentation by at least attempting to get it right. Right now, anyone here, who reads your posts, will get the impression you're a moron because you are presenting yourself that way. Is that what you want people to think?

BTW, I had this very same discussion with my Son before he went in the Army.

If you are going to base the type of person I am by my typeing without maybe asking or trying to figure out. Then I fell so so bad for you. Only thing that comes from me typeing fast and useing the wrong form of a word is that I dont have alot of time on the computer and wanted to type this up fast and move on. If i had the time i would spell check but sadly i dont.
