i go to benning oct 29. who else is re-classing with an arrival date around that time. i am re-classing to the infantry so i'll be coming in around week 9 give or take. i have been out of the army since mid jan.
my contract says school date itself is nov 9 but i know that could change.
i was a sergeant but they would not let me go infantry unless i became a specialist.

erojas,
why are they sending you on dec 24? thats christmas eve. i dont know how things are now but they use to have christmas leave in training so thats weird.

ait. mine says 9 weeks although ait is actually 5. i think its cushion in case they want to send us further back in training, that way they didnt violate contract.

are you re-classing from duty station or coming back in the army?
what was your last duty station and mos?
i was korea last. before that campbell. i was a 14s, short range air defense. hated every month of it.

it been awhile, i was kind of wondering if you got a change in ship date. jan 4 sure makes a lot more sense than dec 24.

its to bad you could not get out sooner like you wanted.

yeah i saw that to. at the same time ait is the last five weeks of the 14 week osut. i wasnt sure what to make of it. the counselor at meps said soldiers re-classing would be inserted around week 9 or 10.

that would suck to be pushed back all those weeks. im still happy i got to change my job to infantry though. ive been trying forever.

what rank are you?

I think you got the weeks of the class wrong. There is no set in stone AIT in Infantry OSUT, because they focus on Infantry skills from the start. When I went through it, the reclass guys either started at week three or week five depending on on if you came to Benning with a valid weapon qualification and PT card within the last six months(you must have a valid WQ to advance to week 5 which is a requirement of graduation. The reason why they make you start at week 5 is because that is when OSUT starts to focus on Infantry skills verses basic training focus on being a soldier. Start studying the CTT manual now because the drills expect you to have basic knowledge including Land Nav. As far as a platoon of reclass guys, don't expect it. We shared a bay and were treated just like the privates with not much of any special treatment. 9 weeks at Benning sounds about right. Word from the wise, don't go there expecting special treatment, because to the drills, you are just a pogue until they say otherwise. What I would be more worried about is how you will be perceived at your new unit. As an NCO, you need to get into the Infantry mindset faster than others, because when you get your fireteam of experienced joes, they are going to expect the same out of you that they expect from other NCO's that started from the bottom. Some might even resent you, especially if they feel they know more than you. You need to learn fast and mostly on your own. You also need to understand the different atmosphere you are going to be around. Infantry units are hardly PC, smoke sessions still exist, competition and aggressiveness still means something and a healthy hatred for those who are not like us can be a challenge at first. Crack open the FM's & TM's, start getting yourself in shape both physically and mentally and never think you are too good to learn something from somebody under you. Good Luck and congratulations.
