My boyfriend is at ft. benning right now. He left for ft. benning may 5th. I have been told other then their passes they boys are allowed to go off base (not that often of course) n do whatever even paty is that true?

When they get a phone call do they get to call more then one number? Like if he still has a little bit of time after calling his parents can he call me or is one number all they get?

He is goin straight through to AIT after his 72hr pass July 4th-6th, do they get more privileges at AIT?

Does he already have his military id? In the state of Georgia you cannot rent a hotel under the age of 21 unless you have a military id. To Ft. Benning from where I am from is a 13 hour drive so not being able to get down there the night before really stinks.

If anybody know more of what ft. benning is like n wouldn't mind filling me in a lil bit I would greatly appriciate it. He has told me a little bit, but calls are very short n they mostly consist of I love you I miss you gotta go, n with it taking 5 days for my letter to get to him and 5 days for his to me communication is slow.

Thank you
-army girlfriend trying to not go crazy without him:'(

1. No they cannot go off base. If they are lucky they might get their "36 hour pass" after 8-9 weeks of training.

2. I usually got 5-10 minutes for phone calls. So he'll has to use his time wisely.

3. Are you sure he is an infantry soldier? Because there is no AIT for infantry, it's all one course. And there is no 72 hour pass that I have ever heard of.

4. He will have a miltary ID.

5. Fort Benning was the worst part of my short infantry career. You get treated like of piece of $h1t, you're surrounded by probably the dumbest people you have ever met in your life, and each day you can't wait until it's over. Of course, there are some good times, especially fun ones, but all in all, Fort Benning is the last place I want to be on this earth.

I a prett sure that he is infantry his address even says Infantry Regiment ITB. Well he doesnt get to come home between basic and AIT he jus get the pass. Honestly I don't know excatly. I thought this pass was kinda the break between the 2 cause he chose to go straight through. He at first really hated it in was jus wanting to get through n be done with it which really surprised me cause he loves doing this kind of physical stuff but now he sounds like he kinda likes it. I have ALWAYS had a high respect for anybody that serves for this country but I am having a really hard time with MY man being gone. I never imagined it would be this hard.

awww cut her some slack AIR... lol she's a baby and just starting out. It su cks, but I do have to agree, get used to it, because a month or 2 does not compare to 15 or more....

You will learn the ins and outs and find ways to keep yourself busy... it will all come together. Besides, unless you guys have plans on marriage, you do not get to move with him to his duty station so... more seperation to come.

Yeah, I just think she is a bit nervous and larning the ropes at a very early stage in the game. BUT!!! I do have to say, BCT/OSUT is NOTHING compared to the start of a long distance relationship( if you do not plan to marry or move to wherever your BF is stationed out of your OWN pocket) and it is nothing compared to a deployment, or for that matter constant deployments.

ARMYGIRLFRIEND? Is your boyfriend going through the Airborne course or does he plan to volunteer for it? If so this also adds time to his training.

Ya deployment is scarry for me. He does wanna get married im thinking wow im only 19 we have been together for about a year and we have lived together but marriage coming in the next 2 years seems a lil overwhelming. I did get to talk to him to today for an hour I was so shocked he got so much phone time. I am VERY willing to go wherever he goes. I would love to marry him but I am jus scared he will go to Iraq and I won't be able to go with him anyway if I cant go live with him on base then I want to wait longer. thank you 5RTBHH6 that is a good verse. I haven't heard him say anything about the airborne. His job is gunner. I know this is nothing compared to a deployment but I have seen him everyday for so long n for him to jus be wripped from me was harder then I though it was going to be. I get to go see him in a week and a half and I hope it makes the 6 and a half week till he comes home go by really fast. He will get to be home for 2 years because he did college first then they can ship him anywhere.

Yes! do NOT jump into a marriage. I mean you could very well move to wherever he is, and he could even possibly live off post with you, BUT it will all be done out of your own pockets the Army will not pay you for it, nor will they pay him for having you there. But it is doable I know people who have done it!

best of luck to him and to you, and enjoy your time with him during your visit@!

Absolutely not. If he so much as sets a toe off base, he'll be kicked or recycled. When I went to Basic Training / OSUT (1989), we got ONE pass, and that was between Basic and AIT, for 24 hours, but we were never allowed off post. Things may have changed, but I doubt it.

He can call whoever he wants - phone time is based on time, not number.

Nope. Not Infantry, anyway. There is a little more down time, but no passes and no more privileges than Basic except a little more phone time.

Yes. Your ID is issued at prep (directly before Basic, 72 hours).

Fort Benning isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be. But your man is in Basic Training, so he's never going to see Fort Benning in its fullness, only Church Hill and lots and lots of training areas. It's either hot and muggy or frozen over in ice. This is the place where God tests how well of a job He did with things that slither, bite, and sting.

A bit earlier in your post, you sounded concerned that he'll be hitting the bar to get drunk and buy a hooker with his first paycheck. Trust me, there is no way that can happen. He is there to be made into a soldier - there is no drinking or whoring around in Basic / OSUT. You have to wait for Germany for that Smile

But seriously, if that really is a concern for you, Guard or not, reconsider being with him. Soldiering is a tough life, and he WILL be deployed while in the Guard. There are no women in the Infantry, but when he is behind the FOB he will have access to every skank, whore, and **** that ever donned a set of ACUs.

Unfortunately, there is a perpetuated myth surrounding us grunts that states that we'll sleep with anything after drinking everything in sight. This is hardly true. When I was stationed in Germany, I went 2.5 years completely faithful to my wife, and many more were just like me. Yes, we got drunk, and yes, temptations abound. But if he truly loves you, then nothing will make him stray. If he is shaky, then everything will make him stray. That isn't about soldiering, that's about moral integrity and character.

Still, he IS going to get deployed. Standard deployments are 13 months, but these have been extended to 15 months for most units, and some are doing 18-month rotations. If you want to be an Infantry wife, be prepared to be lonely.

And you darn well better have YOUR fortitude squared away, as temptation to cheat occurs on both sides. Lots of us suffered a divorce after our women found some REMF to hook up with, and it is the most disastrous thing you can deal him. Don't you dare put one of my brothers in arms through that.

Regardless, don't sweat the small stuff, hun. Your man is preparing to serve his country which, in my humble opinion, no man is complete without. He'll be home before you know it - different in a way, and certainly more cocky and arrogant, but home just the same.

Give him a hug for me, and tell him I said 'thank you,' will you please?

Any other questions, ask away!

FollowMeInfantry, yes things have changed a bit since 89, the year I was born!! Some things have changed even in the past few years. They now get some stupid card that gives them a tim a fir a bit I think it is like 5 minutes but even if it was only one minute that card is freakin stupid you wont be able to pull a card overseas. Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

His pass between basic and AIT is 60 hours I pick him up at 9am on the 4th and take him back at 9pm on the 6th.

Lol your post was very help along with others. It made me laugh. Yes I do trust my man but there is always that whatif ya know.

They passed a law that soldiers can only be deployed for 12 months at a time. People have told me he is no longer a regular citzen he is now owned by the government and they can do whatever they want with him.

No lie I have questioned the military girlfriend/wife life but leaveing him to me jus isnt an option. Even as hard as him being away is. I VERY much and IN love with him. I have VERY high respect for the men and women who server for this country and protect what I have been given not cause they have to but because they believe it is important. It means more then words can describe to me not olny cause they are protecting what I have and my freedom but because I am jus one of those people who couldn't do it. I want to be involved but to see those kinds of things would wrip me apart.

Cheating?? never have NEVER will. I can say NEVER cause I KNOW it won't happen. Like you said it is a moral integrity and character.

Thank you everybody yall are really helping me.
