Hey all. First post.
I have been reading about the 'infantry suck' and how they are way under respected by other ****** bag (the ones that hate on IT) MOS, thinking they are mindless grunts...but we all know that without the bravest infantry soldiers, war is already lost. My question is for those who have served, are you treated any different in IRAQ for being infantry on the streets? Do they even know the difference in soldiers? And are infantry the only guys to kick down doors and stand in street corners? I mean whats a week like, missions every single day? Thanks and respect. |

If they don't know who the @ss kickers are at first, they soon do.

Is it just a patch that signifies the difference? Or are all soldiers 'out there' pretty much infantry anyway? Sorry I am not yet in the army so dont mean to ask dumb ****.

All Soldiers in a particular unit wear the same patch of said unit. There is no visual way to tell the Infantrymen from any other Soldier on the battlefield. The only way to tell is in how they fight. All Soldiers in Iraq are in the line of fire in some sense, but no, not all of them are Infantry. Soldiers have a culture all their own amongst society, and Infantrymen have a culture all THEIR own amongst Soldiers.

Hey drill, you know how I know that Infantrymen are a world apart, even amongst other non Infantry Soldiers? When I was at WLC only the Infantrymen knew about the Rain Turtle, and the curse of the Charms.

you watch a infantry soldier and after awhile in service ya can spot him out,he carries his self with alot of pride in garrison or field.he's the sharpest tack in the bunch.and if he's 18 or 60 he's still is proud of the infantry blue.my son is currently active infantry (iraq).he said when he got his crossrifles that one of the proudest nights of his life.and when i put my old blue cord on him that was a great moment to me.huh guess i got carried away lol

The only thing better than an Airborne Infantryman is a dismounted Recon Infantryman. |

Treated differently? By whom? Other soldiers or Iraqis? Respect, envy, jealousy, and reverence surround the infantryman. Not everyone has our spirit, cohesion, and camaraderie. Because not everyone does what we are called upon to do. What is a week like you ask? Hmm. We are asked to do the impossible for the ungrateful. It is dangerous, scary, boring, and monotonous. All rolled into one. Not everyone can do this. The mission has to succeed, whether or not you are homesick, unrested, dehydrated, being shot at, almost divorced, sick to your stomach---no matter. No calling in sick. Be prepared to suck it up and drive on. If you think the Army Infantry is the type of employer that will allow you to abuse sick time and chill out, then you are a young naive person. If you join, get used to hearing 'suck it up and drive on' because they mean it. |

Haha I can go all day. No matter how you package an Infantryman, and how you get him to the battle field, they are all just grunts after they get there. |

Aint that the truth. Your right about the almost divorced thing too. The Infantry is like poison to marriage. |

I quote:
"We had been trained. People pick the army – they become mechanics, water-supply specialists, cooks, clerks – but the infantry is different. The Infantry picks the men: men who do poorly in math excel at athletics, drink a lot, love their mothers, fear their fathers; Men who have something to prove or feel they have already proven it all. We are both proud and ashamed of what we are. The stepchildren of the Army, Infantrymen are like guard dogs at the rich man's house. When people come to visit, the media, the USO, they lock us in the garage and tell us not to bark, but when night falls and there is noise outside, everyone is glad we're there" |

We do the jobs in and out of garrison no one else wants to do. When we were in the rear before deployment, we cut the pogue's grass, did KP duty and everything else. Add to that, the training, constant weapons training and qualification and maintance, and long times in the field and you get some idea what we do during our "down time."
All said, I'd not trade my blue cord for anything. |

in Iraq its easy to spot a POG or a 11 series.
POG: Clean uniform Carrys m16 Carries one of those retarded mags on the stock Thats all the key signs right there. Infantrymen: Dirty uniform m4 with acog,68,PEQ 15 or 2 ect ect ect Walks with a purpose, carrys himself with a sence of pride. |
