I am at home and I was checking all my banking info when I realized that my direct deposit was switched, but the allotment I set up for the same time wasn't. My question is, what would cause this? If I set them up within minutes of each other, shouldn't they have taken effect at the same time?
By no means is this a pressing issue, I just thought I would ask and see if I could get a quick answer on here. I would wait until tomorrow and ask my unit YN, but she is out on emergency leave and I am not sure when she is coming back.
There is a big difference between changing your direct deposit and starting an allotment. For example, if you elected to change your direct deposit before the pay cut for May 1, then on May 1 your pay should be deposited in the newly elected account. (FYI, do not close your old account until you have received one direct deposit in the new account.)
Now, if you elect to start an allotment for May 2008, you need to understand that the money has to be taken out of your pay before it can be deposited into the selected account. So, say you start an allotment for $100 to begin May 2008. $50 will be taken out of your May 15 pay, $50 will be taken ouf of your May 31 (June 1) pay, and $100 will be deposited on June 1. Allotments are always deposited on the first of the month paycheck. This is good to keep in mind. Also, it is important to remember that whatever month you elect your allotment to begin, the money won't be deposited until the first of the following month.
