What are the tasks of a yeoman while underway? Are you there whenever someone has an issue with paperwork? what type of paperwork needs to be done while underway? Can you be apart of the boarding team?

Yeoman underway are much like yeoman on land. One of the big differences is the other tasks and responsibilities that you will have unrelated to your daily job. Depending on the ship you are on, you most likely won't stand any kind of watch. You will, however, have to get qualified to stand duty inport and learn damage control procedures.

You can be a part of a boarding team, as long as your supervisor approves. However, your job as a Yeoman comes first, so you better make sure you are taking care of the people before you join a boarding team.

Smaller Ship = More Quals and typically standing watch.

While on a 180 I was Master Helmsman, Inport SPOW, BMOW, QMOW(If not BMOW), During Drills was in the Wardroom with the Medical Teams and Phone Talker. There are many more quals that are not listed.

The thing with the smaller cutters, less people to take care of so you can actually have fun doing the other odd tasking.

Bigger ships more people and less ability to get the extra quals. Larger Cutters typically have more YN's though.

Personnaly get your sea time while a 2nd class and get on the 225's much more fun work hard and play harder. Never was a fan of the White Hulls, more politics and less fun (IMHO).
