I am slated to go to Petaluma in Nov 09 and was wondering if anyone, instructor or student, could tell me a little about it. How classes run, standing duty, PT, barracks. Mainly looking for observations that have been fairly recent, as I have heard things have been changing recently. Any info would be appreciated.
I went through A school last year so this info might not be the most current. However, here goes:
- When you arrive you will go through indoctrination. During this period you will not be allowed off base, in the e-club or to drink. I have heard it lasts a week vice 10 days like when I was there.
- Classes run from 0730 to 1600 or 1630. Each week you'll get a training schedule from the instructors to show what coming up in class.
- You will stand duty, but it's not much of a problem. I remember standing dury four times while at school.
- PT was conducted on Tuesday and Thursdays and would consist of BBall, dodge ball, wall-i-ball and other fun events.
Overall 'A' school was a fun time, but be sure to get out and experience the local area...
Thanks Jtag, I have heard in the past that you would be able to graduate ahead of schedule if you were motivated enough and would work beyond the required material. Was this true when you were there? PT- Have no problem with dodge ball, really don't like BBall, but oh well. Would much rather just go run 5 or 6 miles. wall-i-ball, never heard of it. Go out and experience the area- pretty much have that covered since I live in the bay area, so I'm kinda hoping I can do a little kayaking when the time permits. Thanks again,
