I have been in the coast guard for 8 years and 10 months and I have 11 months left on my current enlistment and I just got to my unit 12 months ago so I now have 3 years left at my current duty station. I didn’t reenlist before coming to my new unit and I want to reenlist now BUT I don’t know if I can. Can I reenlist now or do I have to wait? I am asking because the SRB for zone B ET's is going away in July. If I can’t reenlist now and I have to wait till my enlistment is up can I extend for one year in May next year when my enlistment is up and hope that the Zone B SRB comes back and reenlist within a week prior to my ten year anniversary?

well i just came from the CSC here on base and i talked to one of the YN1's up there. he looked at my DA and because i transfered here to an instructor billet i was suppose to reenlist before coming here because i am suppose to obligate 4 years. he isnt 100% sure but he thinks i might be able to reenlist and back date it but first he needs to make sure. im keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully he will let me know soon.

I do know that in order for him to back date a reenlistment, he needs PSC(epm)'s approval. So, he may be running that up the chain.

If it's an obligation issue, then you should be able to reenlist now, no question. But, it's the backdating...

Yes and no. . .

Yes, the request will have to go through epm-1.

No, it will not be an automatic approval. Trust me, I have a little experience in these.

Once a member executes orders without the SPO ensuring OBLISERV requirements have been dealt with, we (the Coast Guard) lose the ability to require someone to OBLISERV.

So, if you transfer on a set of orders that required OBLISERV, and you failed to OBLISERV, and now it becomes convenient because the Zone B is going away, that might not be a solid enough reason for epm-1 to approve an early extension/reenlistment.

The one-year extension at the end of the member's current EOE is always a viable option.

The real question here is "What actions were taken at the previous SPO to ensure the YN realized he/she needs to pay attention to OBLISERV?"
