Q: WIth the impending new MAW, during this most recent cycle of weigh in's, has the YN community seen folks losing a few inches........in height?
Here's the "skinny": Since I can remember (26 years plus of active duty) I have been listed as 71". Just the other day I went up and visited my admin staff (as my presence had been requested to be weight tested). During the process they put the bar down on my head and commenced to telling me that I was actaully 69 3/4"!
Now, in hopes that I don't offend.......Im only 43! That whole natural shrinking process hasn't started yet (or at least, I hope not)!
So.....what gives????? My new panic....I've gone from current MAW of 203 LBS to....new MAW (effective 01 Oct) of just 191 LBS, skipping right through the 197 that would have been my "norm" at 71"!
I'd really like to know if other units are experiencing the same factors with this new process and....if there is any talks about it's new (and what I feel-profound) impacts it may have on our work force!
Please....jump in on this and let me know what thoughts might be provoked!
Confused

With regards,
GMCS

Yep, mine to! We actually had to measure the scale to prove to people that it was right annnnd we attached a level to it to get it just right. We have had the same amount of people stay the same or gain an inch tho too. As long as your body fat is fine you should be fine!

Yes, I have seen this also. Actually my height went down (YNC). We are probably seeing as many go down as going up. You gotta remember.... For most of us, this information was drawn a LONG time ago!

Ex, we are a little smarter than that... You are required to be weighed and measured in your stocking feet.

-I'm not one to dodge the system here but....I'm just taken back at the fact we've looked at me as 71" for my career and NOW.....we're gonna get "serious" and do what we (perhaps) should have been doing all along!
Like all else on the job and in life.....I will make the course correction and carry on smartly!

A point of interest - people who dehydrate themselves to make weight will see a decrease in their height. Why is this? The discs between your vertebrae shrink when your body is dehydrated, and it's not uncommon for people to lose 1-2 inches in height.

GMCS - I'm not implying that you were one of those people who did this. Just putting the information out there. Smile

Your spine is like a spring. If you have normal sleeping habits, have your height measured in the morning. You shrink as the day progresses.

Another possibility would be the earth's gravitational pull in relation to the moon and how the planets are aligned.

Gravity is a *****....

Just make sure they are rounding up if you are 69 3/4 then you should be rounded up to 70. Not quite 71 but hey it's something. The below is from the weight manual.

Measure the member’s height and weight without shoes.
2 Round height and weight measurements to the nearest whole number.

Examples:
• 65.5 equals 66.
• 215.4 equals 215.

Note: All height and weight measurements must be entered into Direct Access (DA)
as whole numbers
