If a member still has years left on contract, are they still eligible for TEMPSEP through care of a newborn? And if so, is the member required to return to the same unit they separated from?

Duff, check out the CG Personel Manual. Chapter 12.f.3.a. Basically, you need to have served at least one year at the unit, and you must submit the request within 12months after childs birth.

..also check out the message board. Two ALCOASTs out regarding the subject, the second one clarifying the first.

Stan... It's a brave new world shipmate. For the same reason we don't tell a young female - make Daddy do it, we will not tell a young man make Mommy do it. This is actually a retention tool to give folks (in several catagories, not just new parents) the chance to see what it is like on the outside and give us a chance to get some of them back. If only a small percentage return from Temp Sep, we get the advantage of a trained, qualified and experienced body. Anyone who is eligible and chooses to seperate w/o using this program is just silly.

Ah, but the OP's name is Brian so I made a reckless assumption that it was a male asking.

Mighty- OK, you are right. Luckily by the time I got married the two children that came with the package were already past that stage. Cool
