I’m just looking for differing opinions. What is the difference between
“government quarters available” and “adequate government quarters”?
Is a berthing area on a 378 considered “available” or “adequate” for an E-5 and above? How does this relate to BAH/FSA-H/O? Single, single unaccompanied (GEO), divorced, separated, INCONUS, OCONUS, ERD…? I have gotten several interpretations of the BAH rules for all situations.
Situation: E-7 on 378 OCONUS, family transfers and then performs ERD…what is BAH/FSA-H/O, COLA entitlements? Confused

I would think BAH at the dependents location.

FSA Maybe

What does the YNC on board the cutter say?

here is a web site that might answer your questions http://www.defenselink.mil/militarypay/pay/index.html

There's a chart in JFTR Chapter 10. BAH would be at the location of the dependents.

FSH (aka FSA) is a separate issue. That's in the CG Pay Manual. FSH would only be authorized if no government quarters were available. Quarters are considered available for FSH purposes for all cutters. Adequacy isn't considered for FSH determinations.

OUTCONUS COLA would be WO depns. If there was a CONUS COLA for the location of the depns, they'd get that too since BAH and CONUS COLA go hand in hand.

This is based on the assumption that a spouse and children returned to CONUS and there was no divorce in the equation. Divorce would change it.

Thanks, TXJ.
A no nonsense answer to my question Smile. While I know you're correct after reading the manuals it still doesn't seem fair.
An OUCONUS afloat member that performs a ERD gets less than a OUCONUS land member that performs an ERD Confused.
A land member that has no adequate barraks gets to leave everynight to their CG subsidized apartment, (private kitchen, bathroom, full bed...) while the shipboard member gets "onboard on duty"
The CG needs to think about how they treat the members that step up for the sea time instead of basing everything on the majority that go home every night.
Thanks for the honest answer and info Cool.

We've had 5 YNC's in the last 3 years, and I have received 3 different answers. 1 YNC was TAD, 1 never showed up for more than 2 or 3 hours a week, 1 lasted a year but really couldn't care less unless it delt with his leave or retirment (ask YN3 he'll hook you up). Our newest one, I will reserve comment on. With the exception of... I guess we don't have to break in OOD on the weekend

Thank you, I never would have figured out where to find all that info. Wink
