I was talking to a friend last night and he told me that a Army Reservist at BAMC lost a leg in Iraq (I think) and got discharged with only 40% disability.
My friend said that Reservists deployed are at Active Duty status.
While I am willing to accept this, I feel that this is not the full account of what happened to this soldier. Especially if it comes from the news.
Actually, to take it a step further, any condition that happens in a "Duty" status can be considered Service Connected.
When they are deployed, it is a "Title 10" situation, they are in effect Active Duty at that point.
If a National Guard member were to lose a leg, break his/her back in a training accident on thier trainig weekend or whatever they would be considered a Service Connected incident and rated accordingly.
Are you disputing the percentage of disability? Only 40% for losing a leg? How about a Reservist, from Ohio, shot in the head three times. He lost an eye, lost his lower jaw and basically the right side of his head, including his ear and all hearing on the right side. His disability? 30%!!!!!!!!!
