I enrolled in this eArmyU laptop option program. I already completed 6 credits towards my MBA. But here is what sucks: Army TA pays only $250 per credit hour. I take 6 credits per semester. The cheapest grad tuition offered by eArmyU is $375 per credit hour. Thus,, for two courses, I have to pay $750 out-of-pocket expenses.

Here is another downside that recruiter/MEPS liaison does not tell you about: you cannot draw GI Bill or apply for top-up assistance unless you've got 2 years of federal service. Plus Top-Up will not cover retroactive tuition fees even I'll be eligible for it.

I tried FAFSA to cover my extra spending, however I am not eligible for it.

Do you now how can I fund my education without getting into student loans? And, unfortunately, I cannot attend non eArmyU insititutions yet.

Please advise.

Thank you

Army strong!

You are not eligible for Federal Aid (Pell Grants) because you probably already have a degree. Pell Grants are for undergrads, not grads.

Do the time until you can use top up, and make up the difference with your paycheck, or take out student loans. You are eligible for $8500 in subsidised loans, which do not accrue interest while in school.......unless you cannot take out student loans because you are ineligible for FAFSA student aid (Fed loans).

You might be able to take out a private loan for the difference, or many private student loans are out there like www.myrichuncle.com

There is nothing wrong about taking out student loans to finish a professional degree.

Take what you need and try not to ***** too hard that the Army pays alot for your education.

If you are a grad....do some research about your finances before you tackle grad work....lol especially an MBA.

Is that how you used to talk to your Blacklion Soldiers in 1-28th, too? Definitely respectful speech. I don't think your retiree status should excuse from adhering to Army values...but moving on...

Deployed servicemembers are taking classes if they want too. Many of them even manage to maintain great GPA - check eArmyU "Making the grade".

The forum thread is titled "Veterans' benefits" - what's wrong with me posting this topic? I thought public forums are meant to discuss whatever you want. Call it whining, I call it sharing.

I might have whined but I do not necessarily need a sympathy. Way to offer help, though

TexanPride, I invite you to check out the school Grand Canyon University. gcu.edu

They have some great programs set up for military personnel, including what should take care of your problem. They lowered the cost of all their credits to 250$ per credit, so your TA should cover the expenses. This does include Masters Programs as well. They also waive application fees, and all the normal requirements to get into the school. (Normally requires a 26 ACT score)

It is also available 100% online.

Texanpride, In the first place yes you can post anything you want, so can I. A person's skin color has nothing to do with our conversation, so why did you bring it up? I am proud of the fact I insult people of all races, colors, creed's national origin and sexes. I am an equal opportunity insulter. Now back to the original question, It will be bvery difficult to find any Masters Program for less than $350.00 per credit. If you want to pursue advanced degree's you will have to pay for some of it out of your pocket (just like the rest of us) The Army never promised you a FREE Master's or PH D degree. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE and Good Luck.

Not sure which college you are using but check out Upper Iowa University, www.uiu.edu UIU gives military a 10% discount on tutition. Their online MBA program ranks in the top 10 across the nation. Yes there is a small cost but what the heck. Imagine paying for it without TA.

Where did you find it ranks in the top 10 in the nation? Here is the Business Week, US News and Selling Power rankings - they only appear in Selling Power near the bottom of the list.
