I got my rating letter, it was about what I thought except they withheld all back pay because I am retired. They indicated this would be calculated between VA and DFAS and at some point I understand I should get the VA Backpay minus the VA offset. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take, on average, for VA and DFAS to determine who will pay me and how much and then send it to me? I am rated at 60% so I get CRDP, I will file for CRSC soon but that should have no bearing on the current rating. CRDP has been assigned and my RAS has been changed to indicate the how much CRDP I will get on next payday. I'm only concerned about when I can expect the back pay.
Just as an informative note, DFAS informs me that it can take upto 60 days for them to calculate CRDP and they won't start until after the first normal payment has been paid, then the 30-60 day clock starts. When they are done, they send a letter to VA and they tell me it can take up to 30 days for the CRDP authorization to post. That makes it a total of about 60-90 days.
CRSC is a little brighter, I submitted mine on the 18th of August and the clock starts then, they estimate 30 days, then the same thing, letter to VA, 30 days to post. So in reality I will probably never get the CRDP awarded which is okay because the CRSC will be much more and would have paid back the phase in.
Bottom Line, if you're retired military and get rated for anything that will result in back pay, you can expect your back pay in 60-90 days after rating.
