Ok. Here is my situation. I went to basic in June. I came here to Fort Gordon, and finally the doctor found out what was wrong with my ankle.

Basically it's nothing that will get better, and I want to get out. (too much pain everyday).

He told me that going through a medical board would be a waste of time because the injury has always been there. Which I don't understand since he just found it.

He said he can get me out within weeks through a medical dishcarge but it will be administrative.

I'm just wondering is there anyone here who thinks that it will be a bad idea? I know I can get benefits through the VA still, but is it worth it? I'm already looking into jobs back home. I would appreciate the responses. These are the questions I have:

Will I still get the MGI Bill?
Healthcare?
How long will the benefits last?
What will the monthly payments be?

so you are in AIT right now?

to get anything from the military the injury has to be service connected. The problem is that anything that happens early in your military career is assumed to be an existing condition. ( except for the obvious inuries, like you were hit by a humvee during PT or something ).

if you get an administrative discharge it will not be honorable. when you are in the military less then 6 months you will get a discharge that basically is saying that you were in, but you left. you will not be eligible for really any veterans benefits.

now if you get a medical discharge, and the military says the ankle is on them.. then you are in a different category.

so if you are looking for the quick administrative discharge, then you are out the benefits.

if you want to fight them and you can find a doctor to say it was not prexisting, then the best result you will get is a medical discharge. And with that I am not even sure what you will qualify for.
