I received a disability retirement from the military 1 year and 3 months ago. I have needed to get into individual mental-health therapy ever since. The VA hospital in my area is 'backed-up' to the point that there's a waiting list to get into therapy. I can see a psychologist for counseling. This is totally unacceptable, because my retirement was mainly due to PTSD. Since the VA can't provide the mental-health services I need (and apparently a lot of others need), what am I supposed to do? I have the automatic Tricare 'standard and extra' that retirees get, but I probably can't afford the co-pay amounts to see a civilian provider. Any help on this would be much appreciated..

Suggest you google "State Veteran's Benefits Directory".,
Many states provide benefits beyond those of the DVA.
All veterans would be well advised to take a look at this
site. Some states offer more benefits than others. In my case
no-fee license plates, reduced fee fishing/hunting permits, etc.

This may not produce the effect you desire, but it won't cost to look.

I encourage to take what help the VA has to offer now, as it could
lead to what you need.

Thanks for your service to the U.S.A.
