Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any information about retiring overseas. I am currently a Retiree, but I have been thinking about moving overseas. And I was just wondering if anyone had any advice/tips. I was also wondering if there is on base housing for Retirees overseas? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :-)
Thanks in Advance!

It depends on which country you'll be living in. Some have SOFA agreements that limit retiree privileges. In my case i'm considering relocating to the Philippines once i finish my contract here in Iraq next year. Research the country you're relocating to. See if there is a Retiree Affairs Office there. If there is, contact them they'll have all the info you'll need, both pros and cons.

No on-post housing for any retirees in Europe, including the UK.

As contractor said, what privileges can be retained is governed by the SOFA between the US and the country you retire to.

Though there are no US military facilities, I have (retiree) friends who have retired to Costa Rica and Panama - all speak highly of those two countries for cost of living, standard of living and all-around good stuff. Well, perhaps except for the high humidity.

I am a retiree living overseas and my suggestion is as follows: First if they have a Retiree Affairs Office contact them with your questions, Next if you have a lot of time on your hands go and visit the country you are interested in and see for your self. A lot of retirees will tell you how great some place is, but it is because of their interests that you may not like (cheap booze, cheap women, etc.) If the country you are planning to move to has a US base, see if you can get a job there before you arrive. This will give you usually full priviledges on base. Good luck.
