Can you receive unemployment benefits while receiving retirement/disability compensation?

I know the answer is yes with SC. I believe if you are retired and looking for a job, you should be able to collect. Each state has their own rules.

After my disability retirement, I was denied for unemployment benefits in Michigan. Because of my type of discharge (disability), I am not "willing and able to work" or "actively searching for work" as the state requires. Instead, I had to apply for Social Security Disability, which I am currently waiting to see if I'm going to be approved for.

Which state do you live in? I recommend finding out that state requirements as soon as possible, so you can take the next appropriate step..
