I'm no longer in highschool, lol I'm not sure if that actally matters, but the thing I know that would DQ me is my vision, I need to get that corrected before I even bother.
I know you can have corrected vison now, I'm just got a strong feeling that I won't be able to go strait into flightschool. I scored a 2 on my vison test at MEPS. My vison isen't "bad", it's not like I cant see anything past 5 feet, but I'm really near sighted, and can't see things in detail at more than 10 feet or so, and I think being able to see things clarly at a long distance would be important. I looked up the most recent requirements, but really coulden't make heads or tails of what it was trying to say.
I did get lucky though and only spend like a month in maintenance. Don't get me wrong I know alot of my stuff, so maybe thats why my process was sped up. You might get lucky like me but I wouldn't count on it lol
First of all I have to say this, I'm a former Marine, served in the Air & Army Guards, have 15yrs of combined service, and I am looking to reenlist into the Army Guard as either a 15U or 15T with the goal of becoming a Crew Chief.
Now onto this, I usually do not comment on things on these "chat boards", but I feel I have to address this with "thisoneguy" if you chose to be either a 15T or a 15U, I will say a prayer for the pilots and other personnel aboard the helicopter under your care, that your mechanical comprehension/abilities & skills are much greater then your comprehension of the English language and proper English grammar..wowww..it is truly horrible!
Unlike making a mistake while playing around on a PC, if you misread a manual, or someone else misreads an entry you made in the maintenance log due to your poor grammar, it could result in a catastrophic in-flight failure resulting in a fatal crash.
I have been aboard CH-46's, CH-47's, UH-1's, and CH-53's during minor in-flight complications/emergencies, and I can tell you it scares the living hell out of everyone on-board, I can only imagine being on-board during a catastrophic mechanical failure.
My advise, before you consider doing a job that holds the lives of others in your hands, I strongly suggest you take some English language courses first.
Maybe I'm out of place, but if you're going to take pot-shots you should probably make an effort toward not using the comma as a period. Also, the word you were looking for is advice, not advise.
Personally, I would base a soldier's worth on their performance long before I ever judged him on the basis of their spelling or grammar.

An alternative plan for you could be talking to a National Guard recruiter, to go directly to flight school.
I have decided to enlist rather than go through ROTC because ultimately I want to be an aviation WO, not a CO that only flies until I make Captain. I was planning on enlisting 15T as well. I am currently in school for Computer Science, and my other option is 25B. I'd like to do 15T just to be near the choppers everyday. I would love to be able to just go civilian-to-WO, but realize how extremely difficult that would be going AD. You mentioned something about the Guard to go directly to flight school; what's up with that?
Boy, a lot has changed since I was in! I was a 67T, Blackhawk mechainic and crewchief. Now I see its a 15 series and they have it broke down into a few specialties. When I was in the 67T worked on everything except radios! I did enjoy being a crewchief though! I got to go to several air shows. We use to take the helicopters out to high schools, the whole recruiting thing you know! And you got to love the crew rest issue, that got me out of more extra duty, classes and CQ! And I got to log about a few thousand flight hours, that I enjoyed each and every one!
Just keep in mind that you can't have ANY drug/alcohol related incidents on your record to become a 15T, that's what lost it for me. And right now they have so many people going into 15 series MOS's that there's a lot of wait time to get into classes. Good luck though, I wanted to get 15T to do the same thing, instead I'm a 63B and I'm putting together my flight packet while I'm deployed. Hopefully I'll make it. If you really want to fly you should still try High School to Flight School, your recruiter said "all but out of the question" you never know for sure until you try.
