Hey guys. I hope Im not out of line or anything, but Ive searched both this forum and the internet up and down for a list of bases with Apache units, be it Apaches or Longbows. Im just curious as I hope to go active shortly (in the NG right now as a 15X) and wondering what bases I could end up at.

I know for a fact Ft. Campbell is one... I grew up there, but do not know any others.

Also, is there any way to request Ft. Campbell, or is that not even worth trying? Thanks in advance for the help.

Campbell, Bragg, Riley, Hood, Hunter, Germany, and Korea.

You can request what you want to request but they will put you where you are "needed"

Yeah, you want to come to Korea, not where that crazy "YellowDmon" is (Bragg).

Thank you for your help. My dads been outta town so I havent got a chance to ask him, but I talked to him last night about it...

He called Campbell "The Black Hole" cause a lot of people get sent there and stay there... And then said it was also the "Gateway to Korea" because they get deployed there a lot. Lol.

We were in Germany for 4 years when I was younger and loved it, so that wasn't too bad.

I've heard Ft. Drum has Apaches, but my dad wasn't sure and you guys made no mention of it, so maybe its just a rumor.

As far as Hunter and Riley, I've never heard of either one.

We don't have Apaches here at Drum YET but the word is that they are coming at some point. You DON'T want Ft. Drum... I'll just leave it at that. Whisper

Hunter AAF is in Savannah, GA and is home to a battalion of the 160th SOAR(A).

Ft. Riley is in Kansas, and is the home of the 1st ID. (I'm told Riley is also "not the one you want.")

Ft. Campbell, isn't a "black hole"....I've been here almost 10 years!

All kidding aside, it's a nice area and a good post. A lot of AH-64's. Second only to Hood and Rucker I'm guessing. Cost of living is decent, and the post has nice facilities, and is Aviation friendly. What more could you want?

Matt, Im hoping I don't end up at either one, but if it comes to it... well, I'll just suck it up.

fly, I'm hoping to actually get Campbell. I grew up there for the first 16 years of my life and have family and friends still there. Lol.

Every place is as good as you can make it. Don't listen to just one person when they talk about a post because that means nothing. Every post has its perks and who cares as long as you are putting steel on target.

Really? Sorry, but some places are sh**holes. You make the most of them, but they aren't home/become home (kinda of like Iraq). If you find the ONLY thing you have to look forward to is work...well, you just might be at one. Wink

Concur. First place that comes to mind where there is nothing good on or around the base is Fort-Freakin'-Polk. What a rat-hole.

I never said they are home. I said that every post has its perks and if you aren't looking forward to putting steel on target then you should probably go fly a hawk. Every place is going to be as good as you make it. If you go to a place and already are in the mind set that it is going to suck then most likely it will suck. Just keep an open mind is all I am saying.

No, you didn't say "you should go fly a hawk". I do and I would have caught that. But I understand your optimism and I don't want to hinder it.

My take is much like the adage about beer goggles aka " a two at ten is a ten at two". This can easily be applied to certain posts and/or their surrounding communities...when nothing is left, it starts looking pretty good.

Just be prepared to feel "dirty" after you leave there. Big Grin

BTW demon, you have any fellow family that are also Army Aviators?

I hadn't heard about Riley getting 64's. Where are they coming from if they do?

I am not too sure where they came from but they have at least 1 BN there, which are actually in Iraq right now. They replaced the 82nd in Iraq.

I believe 1-1 is out there at Ft. Riley, they moved back there in May-Aug 2006 I believe. Also, the nasty rumors that are going around (which we all know how well rumors work out) is that 4th CAB may possibly move to Ft. Bliss and there might be an exchange of apaches from savannah for kiowas from Ft. Drum. We'll have to wait and see how this all works out.
