I'm not sure how they grade it, but don't bother trying to grade your practice one. It doesn't really seem to reflect the actual test. I took the practice and got a 75. In the real one I got a 129.

I would say the only bit you should try practicing on is the Complex Movements section. They give you like 30 questions and 5 minutes to do them in.

Hopefully someone else can be a little more helpful.

GOOD LUCK Big Grin

I'm prepping to take the AFAST, to all you guys that did, how does it stack up in dificulty to the practice tests? IE: you got there and were completly blown away by the differences, or was it easier?
I'm prepping for the worst, hoping for the best.
Thanks.

After doing the prep tests there wasn't anything that surprised me. I could have finished off the instructions that the woman was giving.

Good luck!

I passed my AFAST on Tuesday with a 132. I thought that the actual knowledge-based portions of the test were quite comparable to the practice tests. (Cyclic orientation, helo knowledge, mechanical, etc) How do you study for personality questions though? I just answered as honestly as possible and hoped that they were right. Overall, I was quite pleased with my performance, especially the fact that I was able to finish all of the complex movements!

Good luck to all..

Excellent job, Sombrero, congrats to you!

What is the Army looking for with the background/personality questions? A combination of specific traits and consistency in answering (honesty and saneness)?

I dont think the personal questions are so much graded. It was explained to me that the personal stuff was not included in your score, hence when you get your results from the Ed center or MEPS...there are two sections that do not seem to factor in on your score. There are two scores, added together, to give you your total.

For example mine look slike this:

T1 Background Info R10 S10 Blk Blk
T2 Instrument Comp R14 Blk W1 S14
T3 Complex Movements R26 Blk W4 S25
T4 Helicopter Knowledge R15 Blk W5 S14
T5 Cyclic Orientation R12 Blk Blk S12
T6 Mechanical Functions R11 Blk W5 S6
T7 Self-Description Form R58 S58 Blk Blk

TOTAL SCORES Blk T68 Blk T71

130 = 66 + 64

NOW, how that all adds up I DONT KNOW. LoL. But, it comes out to 130 and the only two sections that look different, are T1 and T2.

If anyone wants to see the actual form, let me know. Send me an email address and Ill send it minus all my personal info SSN etc.

Later

Something I notice here is that you got a score of 58 out of

OK so for anyone like me who had to think for a minute to try and figure out what that scorecard means.
It looks like
R = Right
S = Score
Blk = ?? Not representing number blank because I know
the total number of questions for each
section.
W = wrong
T = test in the line items and Total in the Total Scores

Now first notice that in the complex movements section the 4 wrong items. Score is 25 instead of 26 because part or all of that four added up to a -1. Commonly wrong items are 1/4 of a point against you.

Notice the same phenomenon in the helicopter knowledge. We know that it's taken 1 full point so they're not worth 1/2 credit against you must be 1/3 or 1/4 (usually number of possible guesses -1). Note however that in the mechanical functions the wrong answers seem to count against much more severely. 16 questions doesn't seem right though. But definitely NO GUESSING on mech functions eh?! Lose 1 already gained point for any wrong guess... score would have been 5 points higher w/o guessing in this situation. (Always find out about guessing when taking a test like this!!)

I'll do some math and get back to this thread.
