Hi guys,
I am really thinking about applying for the WOFT program, but I have a few issues and so far local recruiters have not been much help. First, I am currently active duty in the Air Force and I was Prior service Navy before that. I am a C-130 crew chief stationed out at Bragg(Pope AFB) My service commitment is over in October, but I have orders and if I choose to decline them I will have to separate on my DOS and I will have a re-entry code of 3E. According to the Air Force, in their infinate wisdom, the 3E prevents me from coming in any branch of the service again. Now I did call both the Marines and the Army and they both said I could be eligible to enlist but on a case-by-case basis. The Army recruiter couldn't tell me if this applies to WOFT applicants. So there is my first problem. The other problem is the ASVAB and AFAST. I need to retake the first to make the 110 on the GT, but I can't take the test at my base, because it will only reflect scores for the Air Force. Fine, So I talked to some folks on Fort Bragg and they said I couldn't take the test because I am not in the Army. They also told me I can't take the AFAST until I pass the ASVAB first. So I asked the local recruiter and he said I can't do anything or take any tests until I am out of the Air Force. I have also been told that I have to first go into an enlisted MOS and then apply for the program... now I've been in long enough and delt with enough recruiters to not believe everything they say. Don't they have warrant officer recruiters around??? The 3rd problem is my age and marital status. I am 29 w/10 years of service. I am married. I think 29 - 30 is the maximum age limit? Now I read somewhere that the limit is 33 now? I mean due to the war and I know the Army wants (needs) pilots. Is this true or am I outta luck? Sorry this is long but I am trying to make a career decision and I am concerned about throwing my Air Force career away only to find out that I can't apply for WOFT because of some re-entry code or I can't pass the ASVAB and AFAST with the required scores, or I don't pass the flight physical, which BTW I have had several Class III flight physicals in the Air Force and mine is still current for another year.... if that helps any. I just assume take the exams now while I'm still active duty, get them out of the way, so that I can even see if even qualify for the warrant officer program. Please advise, any guidence would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ben |

Try www.usarec.army.mil/warrant and do some research on there and there is contact info for the warrant recruiters. You have take the asvab with the air force then send your scores to the army education specialist. They convert your scores to army scores and send you a paper saying that youre qualified to take the afast. All this info is listed on the above website under "additional requirements for other services" Good luck.

you can drop a WOFT packet while you are still in the Air Force. Take the ASVAB and AFAST, follow the instructions on the website submariner gave you and get your packet into the Warrant recruiters.

I can't remember the name of the test, but it not called the ASVAB for military. It is the same thing though. The ed center will hook you up. Pass that and email the CW4 on the USAREC recruiting web site. Have him email you a letter of interest so you can use that to get your AF FORM 31 approved, along with the DD Form 368. Your chain will have to approve your release. Get a flight physical at Bragg and take the AFAST after your scores are converted by the CW4. He can print out a RED report and email it to you, or you can go to an Army "street" recruiter for that. Like AirborneMO and Submariner stated, use the USAREC Web site. This will save you hassle in the end. All AD AF should follow the USAREC site verbatim. Go to Bragg and find a CW3-CW5 to interview you and write you a LOR. Do that after you take the AFAST and physical. Don't want to go wasting anyone's time without having accomplished all the background work first. Find an E-7+ to administer you the APFT. Score well and write a nice resume stating why you are a fine candidate for WOFT. Have several people say the same thing about you. Send in all EPRs, enlisted records, any waivers you may need, and clearance proof. Get a DA photo from Bragg. Listen, if an AF member wants to go to WOFT, they should go through the same process as their Army counterparts. I actually had a good time piecing my packet together. It didn't put itself together though. However, I had the luxury of being stationed on an Army post. Good Lord taking care of me I guess. Being at Pope is as good as being on Bragg. Good luck !

Concur. Being at Pope should be an AF-to-WOFT'ers wet dream. There are virtually unlimited resources. Call the the Brigade. Ask to talk to the CW4 or 5 SP/SIP. If your packet is strong and your confidence is up, have the balls to go to the top first. You might just surprise yourself at what gets done with a phone call or two.

Thanks everybody for the great. Info.
I emailed the guys at Warrant Officer recruiting website and they said I would not be accepted into WOCS with a 3E discharge re-entry code, but I could enlist, blue-to-green or whatever, and apply for the program later. I am going to pursue who I can here on Bragg because I bet there is a wealth of info around... Once again, thanks everybody. Bon |

I am doing blue to green as well bonfire and its not that difficult. I had a few hurdles to overcome like I just got a 4 year IPCOT for Ramstein here in Germany. Then I decided 2 months later I wanted to do the program. Fortunately its all approved and now im just waiting on my Army recruiter to get back from leave so I can submit a email.

Sounds great. are you still in the AF or have you already transfered? I am alittle apprehensive about going blue-to-green because I don't want to get stuck.... well, you know what I mean. And what enlisted job did you go into and what are you looking for in the woft program (what do you want to fly)?
Thanks, Bon |
