I am a Civilian applicant and my packet is almost done but I do have several questions. In order to go to the boards, do I need to have my moral waiver approved or just a request for it? Do I need security clearance or just a security interview from a person at meps? Also, I heard that civilian boards are held every month instead of every other and I was wondering if that was true? Lastly, how strict are the first of the month deadlines because my recruiter said that he could get me into the September board even though my packet did not get turned in by August 1. Thanks for the help.

I was selected in May so hopefully my info is still current. First I'm not sure about a moral but my lasik waiver had to be approved before I was considered board ready. I don't suspect they will board someone who might not even be eligible. Be patient with the waiver some (mine) add months to the packet.

Regarding the clearance, all you should need is the interview form in your packet. The actual clearance takes awhile.

I believe civilian boards are every month due to the fact that (at least here) the WOFT guys go in with the OCS guys. I was the only WOFT but there were plenty of OCS ready to go which my recruiter said was the norm.

I wouldn't worry about the deadlines for the Battalion board. My recruiter basically called a few days before and they said I could board. The deadlines for the USAREC are not flexible however. I missed a form and had to wait another month even though I had been cleared by my Battalion board already.

Good luck to you.

thanks for the help. My moral waiver is for a disorderly conduct charge about 5 years ago that had a $125 fine. He said he did not think that I needed a waiver for that. But the information I found looks like I do.

About the deadline; my package only goes to USAREC since im an interservice transfer and my recruiter said the same thing about there being no deadline. He said he has submitted a package 3 days before a board and his guy was picked up last time. I had the same questions cause on the site it says pretty much the first day of the month prior with no exceptions. I figured he was just blowing smoke.

I literally just finished the packet process so I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability.

Waiver: The other interviewee I met was still waiting on an age waiver when talking to the board. Might be the same for moral waiver, might not.

Security clearance: Getting that is a long process, you just need to have the initial "go"

Local interviews are basically whenever the officers can find time. The national board has been convening every month. As for deadlines, don't rush it, just make sure everything is in order. I was initially trying to make the May board but needed a MEPS reschedule and then it took a long time to get a flight physical appointment.

Basically, it's a long process and it doesn't hurt you at all to take the extra time to do everything right. What's a couple more months when you are possibly going to be flying helicopters for a living?

Your recruiter is right about you NOT needing a moral waiver for disorderly conduct. Disorderly conduct falls in the same category as getting a speeding ticket.
Goodluck!
