I'm currently in AIT. My projected duty station is the 603rd Aviation Support Bn at Hunter AA. I'm just looking for more information about this unit. I know a few other soldiers that are projected for this unit, and none of us can really find much information on it. We have some specific questions, but any info y'all can provide would be great (obviously, maintain proper OPSEC).
Some Questions: What kind of daily duties will a 25S (Satcom Operator) have in this unit when in garrison? How about when deployed? Is this unit deployed? If not, when was the last time it was deployed, and is a deployment scheduled? What's Hunter AA like? What does the unit actually do when in garrison? When deployed? Are there barracks for privates or do they live off-post? That's all we can think of for now. Thanks! |

No idea, I was a 15Y with 603D
Not right now. Deployed May of 2007 and came back July 08. Yes a deployment is scheduled. You will find out when you arrive to the unit.
In my opinion sucks. But also it is the best Apache post, probably after Germany. Hot humid, Savannah's traffic is unbearable. But close to some attractions. Savannah is a historical town, if you can make time from work, you can go out there and explore. Forget the damn ****y bars. Go see the historical attractions. You can make the best of it.
603d trains and do the soldiering stuff while in garrison. While deployed, they work their @$$ off.
You will be in the barracks. 2-man barracks (2 rooms) with a common area. I was 603D from May 06 to Dec 08. I am still at Hunter but with a line unit. I have good memories of them, and I miss them in general. Overall, you will like your experience. |
