For the men and women who went through WOCS coming in from the Navy or Air Force, without attending WTC, what were some of the hurdles you faced while in WOCS. Did you feel you were at a disadvantage compared to the other cadidates, if so, during which portion? It looks as though I will be attending WOCS in November through the CA ARNG. I am currently an E-7 in the Air National Guard and have been told that I am not requied to attend WTC but I will have a couple of drills in the RSP-O. Just looking for some advice from those whose footsteps I will be following. Thanks!

I have a fellow candidate who was former Navy(OCS not WOCS, but similiar enough to give you an idea).

His biggest struggle was with drill & ceremony, and Army terminology and customs. The first phase of OCS is heavy on d&c, so not knowing his stuff made him look and feel really out of place when in truth he's a pretty squared away candidate.

The D&C took a little while to remember from bootcamp but it came back pretty quick. It wasn't a tough transition though. The hardest thing was holding back the urge to yell "Attention on Deck" when the TACs came on the floor. I got several funny looks followed by "What the f@$k was that?" followed by "Drop Candidate." Study the rank structure and the Army song and you'll be fine. Good luck

I had to do that damn WTC and it was a waste of time. I started as SF in the Air Force so at least I knew what end of a 16 was the dangerous one.

I really didn't feel at a disadvantage at all, few things took some getting used to but not a big deal. I was an E-5 in the Air Guard also, it's quite a change.

Had a former USAF WOC in my class that put the magazine in the M-16 backwards,as dummy proof as they are I wasn't even aware that was possible.

LOL.... don't sweat it man. Find out who's former infantry, and do what they do. They'll be easy to spot, they'll be the ones laughing during 'PT' and pulling pranks on all the other 'LEGS' in formation. Tell'em your navy, and that this is your first time in 'cammies' and they'll laugh at you, and pull you in the right direction. When i went through WOCS, i snatched up the navy guy for my roommate and we all (the former grunts) kind of took care of him, making sure he looked right, and didn't say things like 'attention on deck' etc... he surprised us a few times with some of the pranks he pulled... but great guy, still a good friend. good luck, WOCS is as easy as eating a cake.
