I hear a survey is being carried out on changing the current Chief Warrant Officer 5 insignia to the Rising Eagle.
Has anyone seen this and what do people think? |

Don't think the survey is between the current "coin slot" and rising eagle, but the coin slot and the hollow MWO rank.
According to CW5 Carl Jenkins (HQDA/W.O. Adviser to the CoS), it didn't come out of his office, which is where the final approval would go (Chief of Staff). Most likely coming out of the WOCC. And no, pretty much agreed that it is a bad idea. The MWO is not DOD approved and the other W-5s of other services also wear the coin slot. Good idea fairy strikes again. |

That entire survey was a silly.
CJ said it best. Wasting time to determine what 400 people in the Army wear. I can't wait for CW6 to come out. |

Never say never. When I was in ROTC, CW5 was "in the pipeline" and lots of talking heads said that there weren't enough crusty old CW4s around to justify a CW5. Matt SPC, US Army 15U |

CW6 insignia was actually approved years ago. |

The other services don't use W-5. Or W-1 for that matter. |

SUCKS to be them if any stay in long enough to be "eligible". |

Only the Army and USMC have W-5s. The USN/USCG have up to W-3, and the USN has authorized W-5:

Your source is a bit incorrect.
Every service is "authorized" to have CW5's but only the Army uses it. The AF doesn't have warrant officers at all and warrant offficers in the USN/USMC/USCG are all utilized the same. They start off as CW2s and can go no higher than CW4. ALL warrant officers in those services were at minimum E-6's but usually E-7's before they were selected for warrant officer. So it is way different than the aviation warrant officer program. Heck, the aviation warrant program is way different from other warrant officer programs in the Army. |

USN and USMC now have CW5s - USCG does not. |
