Started going through the application process not too long ago and thought that I would share my experiences with other people.

Background:

Age: 24
Mechanical Engineering degree with 2.8 GPA (2008)
Been working as gov. contractor since

I took the ASVAB in April - AFQT 98, GT 137
The AFAST was just last week 18 May 09 - Score 152.

Also, had PRK eye surgery 25 Feb 09. The results of that were great. I was 20/20 within a week and have now progressed to ~20/15 over the past 3 months. Eye dryness has been minor, but no other problems to speak of... it's the best money that I have ever spent and would do it again without hesitation. Other issues: ACL reconstruction in 2005 and thumb surgery in 1999, but no retained hardware in either case.

Right now I'm in the process of getting all my medical info. I have put in the requests, just waiting for them to be filled. I also go for my post 3 month eye exam in early June. Once I get all the med info, I should be going down to MEPS for the physical.

I'll keep giving updates about my experiences as they happen, and here's hoping for a selection.

lol that's awesome. So you earned an ME degree while you figured out what to do with your life?

I wish I could be there when they try to poke at your GPA.

I would be more than hopeful if I were you. Is there anything that would disqualify you, like a felony or something?

cuz otherwise...

How 'bout a 215 PT score? (j/k, I don't know his PT score)... although did he beat you on the AFAST?

Nope, no felonies here. I have an active security clearance because of my job.

Also, the PT's going well. I can max out the pushups, getting really close on the situps, and under 14 on the 2 mile run. Started doing Crossfit about a month back to really help with the endurance. Also, I knocked out 20 pull-ups the other day. I know that doesn't count but I was pretty excited about doing that at 190lbs.

Did a pushup/situp test today. Maxed out both 76 push up and 85 sit ups for 2 min each.

Yah you'll do fine. I'm expecting a full select for you, at the end of your trip.

I have to take the PFT again in less than a month, let's compare Cool

I'm curious, what are your plans after your service obligation?

It appears you are very competitive in your quest of the holy grail. But remember, if you wish to be an aviator, I suggest applying to the other military services as well. There are more than a few thousand wantobe military pilots out there.

The AF, MC, and the Navy will guarantee a pilot slot before enlisting if SELECTED after OTS/OCS. All military services love tech degree applicants. That degree puts you in the running for Test pilot School and Astronaut training.

The Army is the only military service that has a Warrant Officer pilot program for civilian applicants. Since you're a civilian, apply to all of the services and see where the chips fall. Can't go wrong flying in any one of the military organizations on serving your country. They all have helicopters even though the AF has the fewest.

Remember, if you elect to fly part time in the AF or Army Guard or Reserves, you are able to select the aircraft you wish to fly. No guess work as on active duty. Need not have previous military pilot experience.

The Navy & MC require previous military pilot experience before flying in their Reserve units.

There is nothing better than being young and having a number of different options available in front of you.

Good Luck

To be honest, it does raise some questions in my mind. I figured I would just wait to meet you.

I'll be back in a few days, I'm going out of town.

I have definitely been leaning heavily toward the WOFT program. I'm definitely early enough in the process where I'm not committed to anything.

I felt as though the WOFT program would give me the best chance to fly, and getting the aircraft of my choice (AH-64) I also like the mission of the 64 in the close support of directly impacting what is happening on the ground.

I have a meeting with a Brig. General this month (friend of girlfriend's family) and another with an Army pilot that came from the Academy when he gets back from Afghanistan. See how those go.

When did you become an expert on what the board is looking for? I know of people with better scores that were blackhawk/chinook crewchiefs that got shotdown multiple times.

"I'm curious, what are your plans after your service obligation?"

It's clear that your plans are to get the training and get out as soon as possible if your'e asking other people what their plans are after their time is up, are you here to get training or to serve your country?

Motivated, I can't wait for you to start school. It will reduce some of the traffic around here. Don't get in trouble in "Vegas".

Since were not jumping to conclusions, let's not tell people " I see a selection for you." Now with that said there's nothing wrong with giving someone motivation to get their packet in, after all, even though you are not a warrant yet, part of the warrant job is finding those hard workers to join the ranks. Let's not blow sunshine up people's a$$ either. The board is like a great unsolved mystery. You will see guys in Candidate school and wonder to yourself "How the he11 did that guy get here?" So you just never know who will get picked up and who doesn't. P.S. Luckily I don't have a case of the mondays today.

"I'm expecting" is a matter of opinion. "What are your plans" is just a question.

But we both know nothing I say will fix your problem, don't we. Yes you have a problem.

I'm also right about this kid, by the sound of it, so get over it.

You don't want to pick on me, dude. I have friends in high places. Move on.

Alright, I obviously have to explain everything to you in simple terms or else you won't get it.

You are outclassed.

I think things through, and my conclusion about 21525 was not just some knee-jerk reaction. It is apparent to me, that you cannot comprehend this.

I also suspect people do not trust your opinions, by your failure to give me credit for mine.

I am a good person. I am always fair. I do things with good reason, and I'm usually right. I don't want to take anything away from anyone.

So

When someone has a problem with me, it is obvious to myself and others you must be the opposite.

I will not back down. So if you're looking for a problem, you'll have it with me.

You are right, I am wondering how YOU made it in. I was really hoping to have left that group behind. To quote John Malkovich: "a league of morons". That is not the case, so my best option is to keep good, powerful company.

Here's what I'm thinking: If you're an instructor, you're arguing with a student. No, someone who isn't even a student yet. If you're a student, you spend too much time caring about the wrong things. If you're out in the big Army already, I'll see ya when I see ya.

If you're not even in aviation, I have been trolled.

In my opinion the 6 year ADSO is the length of time a bean counter determined to be a satisfactory ROI. I don't hold anything against anyone who satisfies the terms of their contract. It is like asking people to see six years into their future.

I DO have a problem with people who simply punch a time card.

fyi I plant to stick around till I'm 60 and a day. Aren't you excited.

If someone like 2152 wanted to take their ME degree and work for Boeing, to contribute to the next generation of Army attack aircraft, that would make sense to me and it was the type of answer I was expecting.

2152's reason for wanting Army Aviation was also spot-on, in my opinion. Same reason why I'm here.
