Realizing each airframe has it's pluses and minuses, what advantages if any are there in flying army fixed wing?

I understand becoming an unrestricted aviator is a plus for commercial flying once leaving the service. Are there any additional advantages?

It appears there are many applicants for so few slots every year. Why the high interest?

Does fixed wing flying keep you from going to the field like your helo contemporaries? Less pain and suffering perhaps?

Trying to get some answers.

From what I gather from all the guys both ahead of me and behind me, the great allure is to just be a pilot. We've heard mythical stories about fewer additional duties with more lieutenants and captains vying for the OER bullets, shorter deployments, better TDY locations, no more JRTC or NTC as you know it. Some just like being able to walk to the back to use the small lavatory.

I'm not sure what it is. However, I have an extreme fear of heights...IMC...autopilots...wheeled aircraft...more than one engine, etc. so I will not be taking the red pill.
