I've read a lot of posts about time spent "on the bubble." My understanding is that people who are on the bubble are waiting for a spot in their next course. Is that correct?
What I haven't figure out is what happens while one is on the bubble? What are you expected to do for the weeks or even months spent waiting for classes? Are you assigned to a temporary job or expected to occupy yourself?
Any other fun facts about life outside of the actual schools would be great.
Sometimes you'll get a detail (usually funeral detail) otherwise you show up for PT then show up at B Co. to "study" from 0900-1130 and 1300-1500, then when you fiish IERW you do the same thing just without the afternoon part.
Depends on if you are a WO or an RLO. I cant really speak for LT's but WO's get all kinds of wierd details. Pre IERW I spent 7 weeks and funeral detail, Post IERW I spent 5 weeks at dothan airport assisting new AIT and WOC students coming in to rucker, I'm now working at B co as a casual officer. As of right now FUNDET is staffed primarily with post IERW people. As far as I know they are not assigning pre IERW's to FUNDET. I dont know what things will be like when you get down here, but as of right now if you get assigned to FUNDET you are there for the long haul. You will stay there from the time you get out of IERW to the time you start FSXXI. My room mate was there 115 days before he finally got his 58 class date. Its really not to bad of a schedule, just use your down time wisely. Make a point to study and hour a day, then enjoy the time off.
Good question but when you say 'on' the bubble I can't help but picture a bunch of guys sitting on a giant bubble...and LTs get plenty of weird details as well. Pretty much everyone on post has found some desperate need to have a LT or WO1 take out trash at the office or get coffee.
Can someone please explain what "funeral detail" entails? Are those the guys who do color guard type work for military funerals or something different?

Yes, its the honor guard detail for retirees prior service and active duty at their funeral. Don't get to wrapped up in whats going on at ft. rucker at this very moment though, focus on getting your packet completed and getting accepted. Things change day by day here. So what we are doing at rucker today, most likely wont be what you'll be doing at rucker when you make it here.
