Okay so now the BS gets even thicker. Since I am considered "Active Duty" I can't work as a civilian for the Army. I also can't get an AGR slot or an AR slot because I'm "Active Duty". If I'm so active duty then why am I not getting paid?

This double standard is BS. Either pay me as an active duty LT or put me on an IRR status so I can get a job. Okay I'm done venting.

That's just how gay it is pretty much. You're AD but not on orders yet. It sucks cause **** like this doesn't happen to west pointers, they get sent into training right away (and thus start getting paid). Maybe see if your Cdr can get you to be able to get an early advance like a couple months before you come on orders...not sure if that's possible but there has to be loopholes. There's always loopholes.

I'm out of ideas (And thats terrible) have you tried ArmyOCS.com? It's an OCS website but they might have some input for you from BTDT's.

CWU...

You need to get in touch with Senators Murray and Cantwell. They helped me out immensely when I was fighting for unemployment. Sen Murray is a fighter for causes like this. She will get something done.

Try the local post security offices at the main gate and the hospital. They are run by different security organizations here at Bragg, I believe, and they might be able to help you out as they are used to hiring transitioning personnel and you'll obviously pass the requisite background checks. It's worth a shot.

Sekar thanks for the advice. The only position they had was a part time guy to fill in for guys that are sick or on leave.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the help you have given me and the advice. It has come down to following what traffic said. I'm having a meeting with my PMS tomorrow and if the Army can't do something I will use my Aunt's political influence to make something happen. I hate to do that but it's my last choice. If it comes between putting a roof over my head or ****ing off the Army then oh well. My Aunt has been bugging me to let her help me out but I told her that the Army takes care of it's soldiers. Well the Army has made a liar out of me. So I will be talking to Senator Murray very soon it looks like. Thanks traffic. I should have just listened to you on 30 June. Again thank you for the help everyone.

I am in the same situation... not financially (moved back in with the parents and no dependents) but with regards to long time on the IRR before entering active duty. I branched Aviation and my bolc ii date isn't till april 09. I have a lot of student loans and I have the USAA pre-commissioning loan (which I took in expectation that I would be getting paid after graduation).

Short story, no jobs for Active Duty 2LTs between commissioning and either LDAC/LTC or Bolc II. No pay, no goldbar, no healthcare. All you get is access to post (for the PX and whatnot). You are kind of thrown to the wolves.

I have called my branch manager, they can't do anything on their end. They do not control when you enter Active Duty, Cadet Command controls that. Called cadet command.... they really didn't want to talk to me sent me along my way. Talked to my PMS.... nothing she could do either. I don't even have a hard copy of my orders.

It is horrible what the Army is doing to its officers. I have posted my resume in several places and looked for jobs, but the best thing I have found so far is bouncing at a local bar. If anyone has some idea of other actions to take please let me know. Feel free to PM me. Good look to all the other unemployed 2LTs out there.

Dude I applied for 31 different government jobs working as a civilian for the Army. I've been turned down for all of them. Many of those jobs were mowing grass and other menial tasks etc. Apparantly a commissioned officer with a degree who has been deemed qualified to attend flight school is not qualified to mow lawns or be a janitor. Overall I've applied for 34 jobs and havn't even gotten a call back.

Hopefully I can expect better treatment from the Army down the line. Good luck bro. What's really messed up is there is a ton of temporary PL slots with the guard and reserve that we can't do because we're "Active Duty" on an IRR status. There was a ton of LDAC slots that didn't get filled up alos.

I keep getting e-mails about job opportunities in the IRR.... but yes, we don't seem to qualify. If I didn't care about my career I would be calling politicians.

Have you gotten the USAA Career Starter Loan? That could help.

cwubullrider: Your not going to tick anyone off by using your Congressperson, given the situation your in. They only get upset if you haven't already tried the CoC. In my view, not a lot of folks know this is going on. It's probably a good bet that Secretary of Defense doesn't know about this. I can't see that this is a deliberate policy.

It's probably a gap that the Senior Leadership is unaware. If you want to make them aware (you'll be waiting for the form letter a while):

Secretary Robert Gates
Secretary of Defense
1400 Defense Pentagon
Washington DC 20301-1400

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Having said all that, I could actually use your help in a small way. So I take it your an expert on bulls.

I've got a Texas Longhorn in a barbed wire pasture along my running route. I can't really change my running route easily BUT it concerns me that there is only barbed wire fence between me and the bull. He doesn't charge me but he does this loud wailing routine when I go running by and if he is at a distance he starts to walk up to the fence wailing.....so the question is (is this like a threat to me?)......Am I going to eventually have my own mini-version of the running of the bull on my hands or will he stay behind that damn wire. Confused

Erich thanks for the address. That is really funny as hell about that Texas Longhorn. The balling could mean a couple of things.
1.) For some reason you smell like a cow in heat and you're making him horny as hell Big Grin If that's the case you have alot more to worry about than him charging you. Ever been mounted by a 1,500lb animalSmile

2.) Usually bulls will ball when they're hungry or want some attention. We had a herford bull that would do the same thing this one does, because he wanted to be petted.

You have nothing to worry about. Even if he did jump the fence you can jump back and forth over the fence alot quicker than he can. Also remember don't run in a straigt line but zig zag. He can run faster than you can in a strait line but you can zig zag faster than he can. My bet is he just wants his back scratched or to be fed some long grass growing alongside the fence.

I don't think its the cow in heat thing.

Thanks for the info, I don't think it is hunger so it is probably wanting attention. I think I'll pass on the petting though, last thing I need is for that to follow me back home. Cool
