Well I finally did it. I graduated college and earned my commission as a 2LT, branched Aviation. I'm really excited. The journey to completing my life long dream of becoming a helicopter pilot can finally begin.
Just enjoy it. When are you going to be getting to Rucker?
Flight school is amazing you'll have a good time. Don't be one of the guys who takes themselves way too seriously and can't have any fun. You can have a good time, do well, and learn a lot all at the same time. Let me know if you have any specific questions about flight school or the area. I can probably help as can other member here who are currently in fs.
Congrats! I'm set to commission on Aug 29, branching Aviation too. Depending on how things go, I might even see you in flight school. Do you have your dates yet?
Remember that "flight school" is NOT leadership oriented, but technically oriented. Know that up front and be prepared for it. I was not (about the lack of leadership at least)...and I couldn't stand it.
Obviously, many (okay, most) others enjoyed Rucker University. Take advantage of the technical knowledge base down there...access to such is not replicated anywhere else in the active Army.
At the time I thought I had failed my flight phsyical so I thought that there wasn't a chance in hell of branching aviation. So mentally instead of crying like a little girl I moved on to my second choice which was infantry (what I had done while enlisted) and I really wanted Strykers.
Well it turned out that I had passed my flight physical and did get to follow my life long dreams of flying helicopters. I didn't mention all of this before because what was the point. I would still have been happy and content if I did branch Infantry. Either way I'd still be happy.
