I have a quick question regarding a civilian street to seat package. On the letters of recommendation, I have a good list of folks to pick from, but I wonder what sort of balance I should create in my choices. The website talks about ‘most prominent possible’ & of course you want folks that know you well enough to comment. I have a lot of one or the other. My core consists of: a retired Army Aviation LtCol, who I worked under for years as a CAP officer; and my godfather, who was commander of the Thuderbirds prior to retiring to Northwest. They know me well & have seen my work, plus have a resume of their own. In the other four I can use people with huge resumes that were only briefly exposed to my character & performance, or I can use people with little resume that know me very well & would make a stronger case. I wonder what balance you think I should pursue, or should I instead balance on the listed qualifications of fitness, service, community, etc, or perhaps try to do both? Just curious what your thoughts would be, Thx!!

I am pretty sure RK is not allowed to even enlist in the Army. Check on that, with a recruiter. PRK is accepted to the Army and aviation.

I am currently on AD in the Infantry. I am putting together a flight packet and was wondering has WOCS really gone soft? Also I have the cliff notes study guide and the mechanical section has examples involving some fairly complex math. The arco study guide I got from the mos library had simple common sense mechanical questions. What am I going to encounter on the test?

Remember if you take the AZVAB again they will only use the most recent score, so you might not want to take it again. If your GT score is over 110 you will be fine.

dgoutlaw,

WOCS may be going soft, but that doesn't mean that Flight School or OBC/WOBC is. In fact, AOBC (I believe that is what they call the new OBC/WOBC) is looking at getting tougher and moving several difficult and key phases to frontload flight school in order to weed out the weak.

If you have the right attitude and work ethic, it all ends up just being a right of passage into the world of Army Aviation.

Two Questions-

1) I heard that after you take your flight physical it has to be sent off and accepted at Rucker? True or False? If it’s true about how long does it take?

2) On average how many Letters of Recommendation did most of you send in? I think I am going with 4; Battalion Commander (LTC), Former Batt. Cmd. (LTC), Company commander (CPT) and an aviation Major. Believe it or not I have had a hard time connecting with a CW3 here at Ft. Hood.

Flight Physical and Letters of Rec. are all I got left. I got a 139 on my AFAST, have a little bit of college and a pretty solid resume. I like to think I will have a competitive packet; but so does everyone. I would like to have it all ready by the end of August, I hope...

Yes, the physical must go to Rucker. I wouldn't speculate on the length of time it will take for approval.

Hey everyone. Im working my package right now, and am "seemingly" very close to being ready to submit it. However, a little input never hurt anyone, so here are my questions.

First of all, im an AME3 in the U.S. Navy with 3 1/2 years of service. I also have a good deal of civilian flight experience, but have not obtained any licenses. I just took my AFAST test and picked up a 124. I guess thats supposed to be pretty good, but I know that that score alone doesnt make the entire package golden. What im wondering about right now is if letters of recommendation from my chain of command will count the same as LORs from Army officers? Im not stationed close enough to an army base to effectivly receive help from any army personnel. However, I am aviation squadron based, and my CO, XO and maintenance officer have pledged their support in the form of LORs.

Anyone who made it through that transfered from the Navy, feel free to contact me. I have a few more questions, but will hold off until a bit later. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals.

JUber,

If you are civilian, you can turn in 6 letters of recommendation.

If you are a soldier, or Active duty member of another service, you can only turn in 3, and they are required to be your current Battalion Commander, current Company Commander, and a letter from a Senior Army Aviator (1000 flight hours and 7 years of rated Aviation service), either CW3-CW5 or MAJ and above.

Someone on the boards somewhere was saying that the USAREC site recommended that one letter be from an army aviator. Does this apply to civilians as well? I tried to visit the USAREC site but it had a popup which said government use only so I figured I shouldn't proceed.

Doesn't look like anything requires an aviator recommendation for the civilian application to WOFT.

A recommendation from an Army Aviator in a civilian packet would not hurt, though.

I think the point is being made (by USAREC) that it is not necessary. So, I'm not sure that it improves your chances without any data to verify that statement. I think it would be a disservice to encourage applicants to find an Aviator letter from someone they don't know, when a letter from a known community leader may carry more impact. A strong letter from an obvious acquaintance/friend vouching for good character, work ethic, responsibility and the other traits desirable in civilian applicants may garner more favor than an interview with the prerequisite statement and only a moment's interview to flesh out why the Aviator feels that way.

Here's my understanding.. SERE-B was for aviators, SERE-C was for SF. But with the new FSXXI, they want aviators to go through SERE-C.. but Fort Rucker is lacking a resistance lab to become level C certified. But there were plans to construct that and most likely by the time either one of us gets to that portion, it would be complete. Is it hard? I'm pretty sure of it. What happens when your bird goes down in Iraq? They give you ice cream and a hot shower? I dont think the SERE-B could be that difficult because we have some girly pilots in my NG unit. Besides if you are wanting to become an AH-64 pilot, 3 weeks of SERE training should be the least of your worries. My friend went through SERE-C for SF at Ft Bragg and I've heard stories about that.. It's not pretty

Can anyone confirm the rumor that Mike Durant is the lead man behind the new "aviation" SERE-C curriculum? I've also heard mention that it is as intense as SF SERE-C, but more tailored for aviators. Nonetheless I'm not looking forward to it either.
