When doing a street to seat packet for WOFT, would it help if the applicant had a fixed wing private licenes? Would it help more to have a rotor licenes? Ya, I am sure this has been asked befor but I can not find.

Hey guys, thanks for the sweet forum!

I am super stoked for Army aviation. I'm putting together a packet now for the Warrant Officer Reserve program and hope I get accepted to fly helos. I decided to go reserve so I can still work for the family business and get a chance to serve my country. I'm expecting to be deployed at some point during my service, but I'm only making wild guesses as to how long and how often. I understand there are infinite uncertainties with this kind of thing, but wanted to know what experiences other Reserve pilots are having with deployments.

USAR/ARNG deployments seem to be ramping up in the even numbered years. It's probably just a coincidence, honestly. Currently, the reserve component deployments are just as active if not more than our AD comrades. There is no more typical old-school USAR/ARNG. It's all "part-time active duty" if that gives you an idea of what the current OPTEMPO looks like.

Thanks to those who all helped me throughout the years I spent here... I am selected by the May 09 board to attend WOCS/WOFT.

For those of you who have not heard of or seen the Apr/May 09 issue of Army Aviation magazine, an article by the Chief Warrant Officer of the Branch CW5 Reichard outlined the following:

"Although the regulatory prerequisites remain the same, I recommended some changes to the minimum selection criteria, which the aviation branch chief has approved.
MG Barclay signed a memorandum changing the requirements to:
- 29 years of age or less.
- 8 years active federal service (AFS) or less.
- A minimum GT score of 110.
- A minimum AFAST score of 110.
- Strong letters of recommendation"

For those of you that wish to read the article in its entirety, use this link below:
http://www.quad-a.org/magazine.htm
And then click on the link to the article by CW5 Reichard titled "Future of Army Aviation Warrant Officers"

I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THESE CHANGES TAKE EFFECT. Additionally, being active duty, I have no idea how this will affect the Guard selections. However, I've seen time and time again that most things in the Army are waiverable. I posted this reply so that all those current and potential applicants reading this forum can get a jumpstart on ensuring their packets are as competitive as possible.

Does any one have any info on the time line after the review board? I'm hoping to go to the JAX board in July. How long does it take to find out if your in or out?

The results are usually posted via milper message the day of or after the boards. Your recruiter (If you had one) will know that day.

Greetings!

Well I am a Armyvet with a son whom has graduated from college and just told me he was going to be joining the Army WOFT program. After a bit of shock I was wondering if any of you can explain what he got himself into. When I was Army I was enlisted and I guess he would be a WO. As I recall that was a great position to be in not really an officer and not enlisted. The helo guys seemed to be happy and relaxed as well as saving our lives. He passed his test 100% has a 3.5 from n Ivy league school and a BS in engineering, already a Rotary wing CFII, and was captain of his sport team. I feel he will do well but i am worried as a father.

I'm currently 7.5 months into WOFT, with 6 years of previous enlisted experience in Army Aviation.

Has your son already been selected to attend Warrant Officer Candidate School with follow-on flight school, or is he still in the application and board selection process? Myself or others on this forum could probably better address your concerns and/or questions if you could clarify where in the process your son is.

Question - this seems to not be a simple answer as the recruiters all have a different explanations (or none at all). I'm in the IRR with 2.5 years remaining after completing 4 years on the active enlisted side. I have a private pilots cert and I'm one class short of my masters degree; meet all the minimum requirements for the flight program. My question is - is it possible to drop a WOC packet for aviation warrant reserve / guard from the IRR before joining a unit? The recruiters keep telling me I have to 'enlist' and then drop my packet. Any truth to this? Thanks everyone.

notfastenuf, your best bet is to find a reserve or guard unit you're interested in joining, and talk to the warrant officers in those units. They'll be able to answer that better than any recruiter. The "enlist and then apply for WOCS" line is so overused by recruiters its ridiculous.

Appreciate it. I guess I just needed confirmation from someone that it was BS. The Warrants I work are CID and have been a great help, but can't speak to 153A. I've started reaching out to recruiters, but they still give me that line - I'll figure something out.

I'm even having a hard time getting scheduled for an AFAST; they're telling me I need a 4187 in order to take it with a Commanders endorsement.

If you can't locate any Guard/Reserve 153A, I suggest emailing the WO recruiting team. Their link, as well as loads of other useful info is on the WO recruiting website.

Hey guys! I just found out about this forum and I am really glad I did. I am very interested in applying for the Warrant Officer Flight Program. However I have a question that hopefully one of you can answer. I am one year away from graduating from my community college and I should finish up with about a 3.0 grade point average. I was wondering if I should transfer to a 4 year college and get my bachelors degree, or do you think I should start taking flight lessons right now and get my private pilot’s license? Which would the army weigh higher? Any input would be great! Thanks!

I have read all 45 pages of this thread and thought I had all the information figured out, I was thinking of applying to the National Guard here in Washington state (Seattle area) to go to WOFT, so I spoke with a WO1 recruiter and he advised that I have to enlist first and then drop a packet, I know I’ve seen multiple posts about street to seat so I asked him and he advised the Reserves have that but not WA NG, I’m 31 so enlisting first would probably not leave me with much time to try and drop a packet before 33, is this info all correct?

Has any one ever heard of the review board waiting a month because they didn't have enough applicant's? My requiter tells me I have to wait until the first of August to go to board instead of July because several people didn't get there packet's turned in on time. He say's the board will not meet for one or two applicant's, "its not worth their time". Doesn't sound right to me, what do you guys think?

Yes, I am in the same spot. I have Boards tomorrow but I was told Ill have to wait until Aug 17th for Rucker boards to make the final call. I wasnt given a reason but the fact that I am the only applicant in my area, your reason makes sense.
