Are there any bonuses available to WOFT Applicants? From what the recruiter is telling me there is nothing at all. Also I'm being told that since I signed for the GI Bill with the Marine Corps Reserve the active duty Army GI Bill would not be available to me. I learned my lesson with not taking the recruiter for everything hes got when I joined the USMCR and didn't know about the GI Bill Kickers or even bonuses that were available and colleague's of mine had received.

Can anyone please tell me whether what is being conveyed to me is accurate?

Thanks

Flying a chopper is your bonus, as an applicant of course. Retention is something else.

lol @ people who obviously will not make it into the program lol.

lol.

oh and lastly: lol

The GI Bill is a sweet package, and it's open to anyone who pays the $100/mo for the first year buy-in.

You need a bonus/incentive to go after the flight program? Screw you. Lol.

LOL.

Seriously, there are waves of people better qualified than you, willing to put their lives on the line for their fellow soldier.

So don't worry, the Army can do without you.

The Army recruiter/E7 I'm dealing with. From what I'm being told by individuals who are/were in my shoes the MILPER Message is just a little confusing for them to interpret when it comes to reservists applying for active duty Army who already signed for the GI Bill with the Selected Reserve

Seriously, let's keep this forum as professional as possible. While I agree that anyone that needs a bonus to fly for the Army needs to reevaluate their intentions, let's tone it down a bit.

I'd like to add a few points for those that are currently applying or considering application to WOFT. First, the selection is VERY competitive, even more competitive now than a year ago. The program at Rucker is overstrength by approx. 400 warrant officers.

Second, there are waves of people that want nothing else/more than a chance for selection and training in this program. If you find yourself not 110% committed to becoming a professional aviator for the right reasons, I will ask you, do not take a selection slot/career away from someone that wants to be there more than you.

I've seen a number of Army aviators that just get in the cockpit, move the stick for a while, and then go back home after doing the "job". If you aren't improving yourself as an officer and a professional aviator, or trying to improve those soldiers that work with you on the flightline, you are doing nothing for the Army but taking up a personnel slot, plain and simple.

Take what you can get man. I just signed with the MO Guard for WOFT and got the Select GI Bill and a $365 a month kicker plus a 10k bonus that comes after graduating flight school. The reserve/NG GI Bill doesn't come close to the new Chapter 33 GI Bill that will start this fall though, so I probably won't use it. I think these bonuses are Guard and Reserve wide.

Wait wait, you did sign with MO Guard for WOFT? Then how come the WO Application Guide for the Guard says WOFT is not an enlistment option? Maybe you got selected from within the unit?

I was reserve. I put together my packet, did all the interviews and state board stuff, then after they said everything was good to go I enlisted into the Guard on a one year contract into an "excess warrant" slot. Two weeks later go to the Fed Rec and it's done.

If I had bombed the board or something I would have been stuck in the guard, but I wasn't too worried about that. Once the state guys have all interviewed you and say you're good to go, you don't have too much to worry about. The Fed Rec board is not a murder board. So, no, you can't enlist into WOFT, but you can make sure you're set up for success before signing the dotted line.

I'd say it was easy if it wasn't for the fact it took the reserve eight months to actually release me.

I just went to Hunter AAF the other day for my 1W flight physical. There were just two of us civies there. We were surrounded by WO's & RLO's. The staff at the Army clinic are a lot better then MEPS. Matter of fact, besides it being a long day it went better then I expected. Did both parts in one day.

I just got off the phone with the VA and the representative that I spoke with said that the new MGIB Chapter 33 is coming out August 1st 2009.

Apparently in order to be elligible, you must serve at least 90 days on active duty. After those 90 days you can apply for it and receive a certain percentage of it. In order to be elligible for 100% of the benefits you need to serve at least 3 years of active service. There is no contract or paperwork you fill out for it at MEPS.

The best part is that it is 100% FREE There is no buy in!

Anyways, just felt like sharing that. Take it easy ya'll.

The staff at the clinic told me 1A was for OCS while 1W is for WOFT. I even circled 1A on my paperwork but they changed it to 1W. I'm hoping it's all right. Results were sent to Rucker AeroMed for approval (LASIK). Should know something in a week.

I have searched the forums and the website and came up empty. For anyone who has applied from the navy, which uniform did you use for the photo? Seasonal appropriate or blues? I may be over thinking this but I thought I would check.
