Are you asking what are your chances of getting into WOC and WOFT with a congressional inquiry? |

Yes. |

While you are getting Congress involved, perhaps you get them to increase the BAH in Alaska (it is severely inadequate in my opinion).
I wouldn't recommend going that route. |

Does the Guard have a street to seat program like the AD Army?

Depends on what state, but for the most part, no. Most of the basic requirements are that you "be a member of the (insert state here) Army National Guard in good standing."
Talk to the state strength management officer and WO recruiter in your area. Their job is to help you out on things like this. |

Thank you. What about going in as an officer and branching aviation? The Guard recruiter said I qualify to be an officer. |

Probably an 'easier' path, as the Officer Recruiter has a listing of open LT Vacancies.
Depending on the type of airframe that is around, you could fly jsut as much as a WO, although, I would consider you lucky if you did. Look around, find the vacancies, and then start asking about Warrant Opportunities within that unit. It's your career, and in the guard it WILL fall on you to make it happen. We have some very good LT's in my company. One just got her commission hasn't been branched AV yet (don't ask me why she is with us), so it has fallen on me, the CFI of the group, to teach her and another ROTC cadet the basics of flying and see that they get a good score. So far, they have proven to be pretty savvy on the concept side of the house. Now, if we can just get that complex movement portion of the test out of the way (no perverse comments)....... Anyway, like I said, look into it and perhaps use that as a starting point. You may find that the RLO side of the house is more up your alley on the guard side of the house anyway. E. |

Well let me ask you this..Have you already taken the AFAST and the flight physical? I ask this because from what I've learned in my whole application process, is that the WOFT program is not something you go into half-heartedly. You must want it..a lot!

Well today I got back from the recruiter and they gave me the join first warrant officer later. What I was wondering if you folks could tell me how true is this. At the moment I am 19 and have about 20 hours of civilian rotor time. I have paid through until I get my helo PPL. The question is should I try going the civialian route and applying for the WOFT program or should I indeed just join then try?. Does having a rotor licence pull much or is a degree better. So could you give it to me straight i would appreciate it.

Howdy folks. I just wanted to introduce myself; no questions at this time. I'm 19 years old, working on my HS->FS packet (waiting on results from Flight Physical, then off to board interview). Hope to fly 64's, but will enjoy whatever I'm given.
- 95 ASVAB, 130 GT, 148 AFAST. - CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) after junior year, about 20 college units completed. - 1 hour rotary flight time, 7 hours fixed wing. - ~2.5 years of work experience, first as a pizza delivery driver, now as a security dispatcher. - Dedicated war-gamer, including Airsoft, sword-fighting, and computer combat video games. Hoping to submit for the Sept selection board, but we'll see how long it takes for the Physical results to come back. |

Concur Aussie, done let anyone talk you into doing something that you don't want to do. The flight experience will help, but it isn't required.

I just joined up to offer any help I can. I am checking out of BWS today and going into selection on Friday...
Aussie, I enlisted first to drop my packet. I spent 2 years in the Infantry before I was able to submit my packet. I loved every second of my enlisted time but knew where I wanted to be. If you did this things might not go so easy, problems could arise with deployments, your Chain of Command all the way up to the CO. No Team Leader, Squad Leader, Section Sgt, PLT Sgt is gonna want to help there newest private become an officer, it will take time to prove yourself in the unit and recruit help with your packet. Your qualifications seem strong, I myself am a private pilot and have a long Aviation background, I think it was a big factor in my selection. Stick to your guns, do the work now and enjoy later... |

Are some bad results on a diploma with mostly good result going to hurt me in my packet?
I have been researching these forums and realised that this High School to Flight School path seems to best fit how I would like to get into aviation. As I understand I need to contruct this packet of diplomas and essays, letters of recommendation and so on. Now I can do all this but I went to high school and college in England (I am a US citizen but it's a long story) so my recruiter said that I need to fax over my diplomas so that I can have them translated. On these diplomas I have a list of the courses and grades for them. Now while it's not anything dazzling, they are overall good grades of A's, B's and some C's. But there is a D in Religious Studies and an E in German Language. Now I think I have perfectly good reasons for both. With the D, I went to a Catholic School but because my essays in RS often gave neutral views and reasoned arguments on all aspects of religion as opposed to the bias view my teacher was apprently looking for, I suffered. With the E, I filled out my application for the courses I wanted to take as a senior and was told I should include a language otherwise it won't look good for a college later on, so, being young and nieve, I backed out of one course and applied for a language which by that time had filled up and I got shuffled into German which I just plain sucked at. I realise this is a long question but I just want to know whether when looking at these grades they will focus on these bad aspects. |
