If you all don't mind, I would like to address this Marine's issue. Numbers, I hope you have thick skin, because I am going to give it to you straight. Before I start, I will let you know that I am currently an active duty Marine SSgt here at Camp Lejeune with almost 12 years in, so I am not just blowing smoke up your a$$ or gaffing you off.

1. You are posting on a forum that has a very in depth search feature. I cannot tell you how many times I used that feature to find my answer before I posted my question. 99% of the time you will find your answer in a previous post.

2. Also keep in mind that the more intelligent your post looks and sounds, the more responses you will probably get. Honestly, I know that this is just a forum and you are not being graded but try using a capital letter once in a while. Especially on the word Marine. I take that pretty personal.

3. No, the Warrant Officer Flight Program is not offered in the Marine Corps, you must be a commissioned officer with at least a bachelor's.

4. Yes there are ways that you can inter-service transfer directly to the Army for the WOFT program, I was just selected off of this last board. You need to do some research though. Start at this website, it may ring a bell, www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant.
5. Next time give some background info on yourself so someone that has been there before can help you a little more. For instance, do you have college, are you in shape or fat, if you are aircrew your GT should be good, how long have you been in and the like. This program is extremely competative, out of approx. 193 applicants last board only 53 or 55 got selected.

Hope this is enough info.

If you get nothing else out of this post remember....USE THE SEARCH FEATURE!!!

Good Luck

By being at the right place on the OML when that 64 spot is available. If your class is given 64s as a choice and a slot is available when you are to pick--your in.

This is a subject discussed at much length in this forum, try searching for "airframe selection"

Just curious, how much do Warrant Officers get paid during training? And how about when they're done with training?

Summy--

A WOC gets paid at the rate of an E5, unless they held a higher rank prior to WOCS. If that is the case, they are paid at that rank.
After WOCS, you get raised to the rate for a WO1 w/ time in service affecting that rate.

Check the "benefits" section of this website for those rates. I don't carry them around w/ me.

And search this forum if you have any other questions. Failure to search prior to asking can result in some barking at you.

I have read this forum and I know that is will be a repeat question but I thought I would give it a shot since I have exhausted most efforts. I am currently on Active Duty as a SGT in ADA. I came over from the Navy where I was an aircrewman for seven years. I am 27 and have been through SERE and Helo Dunker training. I have taken the AFAST already and finished my flight physical today. My problem is that I am new to the Army (9 Months) and don't know any aviators. I am on Ft. Bliss which is aviator less. I need letters of recommendation from aviators and solicitings help. I would gladly do an interview with anyone that is willing to help get my package together as soon as possible. Like I said I'm at Ft. Bliss and can not find an aviator here. I'm doing it for the money I would do it for E1 pay I just miss being in the air and would love to pilot an aircraft instead being crew. If anyone could point me in a direction their help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Hello all,

I am a civilian and am getting everything together to start on my journey towards WOFT. I have no worries at this point except for one portion of the physical exam. My family has a history of heart disease, specifically with the males on my fathers side of the family. I personally have had no health problems.

I would like to know if this family history is enough to disqualify me from flying?

Thank you.

numbers,
If your EKG and bloodwork look good, it shouldn't be an issue. Good luck.

Hey Guys, I need some help..First of all I'm a military high school senior attempting for the "High School to Flight School" Program. I have taken the ASVAB and the AFAST and have exceeded on both, however, my recruiting station is constantly trying to get me to enlist and every time I walk in there they attempt to shoot down my dreams of becoming an Army Aviator through the HS to FS route. I have put up with this for quite some time (2 years), and it is just Really starting to irritate me. I was wondering if any of you guys out there would recommend getting a new recruiter or maybe even going through Knox? (Is it possible to do it all through the WO recruiters at Knox?). Your suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

I met w/a recruiter today and asked about the WOFT program I am 27 w/only 15 college credits. He says I need warrant officers as references for this program. He also said I should enlist as aviation mechanic and get to know the aircraft to prepare me for the afast test and get to know the warrant officers who fly them for references. And also pick up rank and more college credits to help me get in WOFT. just wondering if this sounds rite. I am 27 and worried if I wait I will be to old by then.

Question about the National Guard:

I've seen a couple posts, including one from Zaurus, saying that the NG, AD and Reserves all have the same "street to seat" program. But I have a PA National Guard recruiter telling me that this isn't available for NG unless I have prior service. Any truth to this? He gave me a phone number of a higher-up to call if I had any other questions, so it doesn't seem like he's BS'ing me.

Secondly, he said if I enlist, that the chances are very likely that I'd get selected for WOFT because they're hurting for pilots right now? I saw another comment somewhere that agreed with this. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your input.

It depends on what the rules are for your state. For mine, you have to be a "member of the WA Army National Guard in good standing." For others, it is different in that you can apply right off the seat. You would have to contact the Strength Management Officer and see what the rules are for that particular unit/state.

As far as enlisting goes. Like I mentioned before, it may be a necessary evil to get into the cockpit. However, pick a job that puts you close the pilots so you can get some face time and that you would enjoy if you didn't get picked up the first time. I was a 15P for a bit and liked it.

After speaking with a couple of senior WO's last drill, they all seem to think that there is a mid-level career gap in the WO aviation field right now. That means that there are a lot of new folks, and a lot of old folks and trying to operate between the extremes is becoming frustrating. Now is a good time to work on getting yourself in because there are going to be a lot of retirements and non reup's when it comes to flying.

Right now, the draw on our state resources is heavy and most folks just don't want to put up with it. Fine for us younger driven folks who want the experience if you ask me.

Beaglemaster,
Where are you located in PA? I'm in Williamsport but my recruiter is out of NJ and that is where I did my Battalion board. I stopped by my local recruiting office in Williamsport to offer help to any potential WOFT candidates and the station commander informed me that the WO selection rate is 0% and PA is not accepting ANY WO packets to their battalion. It seems to me that some recruiting stations are VERY misinformed. When I told them I was up for the USAREC board in June, everyone in the office looked at me like I had three heads, then ignored me like I didn't know what I was talking about and wasn't even present in the room. I guess thats waht I get for trying to lend a helping hand to the ignorant.

Let's face it, Officer Recruiting, both RLO and us are just not a priority right now. I am not sure if they ever were. We keep seeing the articles from the Army Times and hear statements from our uppermost leaders saying that we are x-amount of thousands of officers short, but yet recruiters still focus their efforts elsewhere.

According to Army leaderhsip doctrine, enlisted soldiers just can't reach their full level of effectiveness without proper leadership. There needs to be a change in the reruiting process that offers a litt more incentive to get officers in class seats to fill the ranks and provide the leadership and experience required to necessitate said development.

This is like a two-headed snake that keeps attacking itself but doesn't realize that it needs the other to function. Those of us who care and really give a $hit about what is going on can holler all we want but, as is the Army way, sooner or later something will break that will cause the powers that be to look differently at the generic officer selection process and wonder why we didn't do it differently all along.

USMCLOADY,

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I will enlist in the guard unless I become absolutely convinced that I would be happy with a non-flight mechanic-type job for the next 4 years or so.

I am near Pittsburgh, and the place I would want to go is the Apache unit in Johnstown, PA, but I haven't called them up yet b/c I doubt they'll be of much help, seeing as they won't be able to guarantee me anything.

I guess the Reserve is the way to go, but unfortunately the closest unit appears to be Willow Grove, PA, which is around 250 miles away, and it sounds like that distance might be a problem for the Army. I'd move though, if accepted. Anyone know of anything else in OH or WV?
