Is there anyone here from Arizona's 1-285th Avn? If so, I have a few questions I would like to ask you. Please send me a PM.

Thanks,
z

Hey traffic. Yeah, we have a few guys down there. Say hi to David P. if you know him--I think he showed up about the same time you did.

My bout for an ID slot is over. By the time I jumped through all the hoops and finally got everything ready to board, they had enough candidates that they didn't want to waste time with someone who needed an age waiver (can't say I really blame them). I'm looking at the possibility of moving to another state. Things were bad enough when I started the process over a year ago--I turned 38 today, and I see my already-slim chances slipping away exponentially, but I have to try something. I just can't let this thing go. I'm starting to contact some other states (preferably with AH-64s) to see if there's anyone that would give me a fair shake were I to move.

Enjoy your time down there and keep it spinny side up.

z

Does it absolutely HAVE to be 64's?? I am pretty sure we are going to get strapped for Blackhawks here pretty soon and I might be able to make a call or two, or at least give you the number my OSM, who is a pilot in my unit. We are pretty good friends. He might be able to help you out.

Plus, the move wouldn't be that far.....

Think about it.

Mr. Traffic (last time I'll do that, I promise, but I had to give you the props at least once Smile ,
64's are definitely my first choice. 60's would be my second choice, and I'm at the point where I'd be happy flying anything they'd let me fly. Hell, I'd fly an R22 with a mission. For Blackhawks, Washington or Montana would be easiest on the family. I would love to talk with your OSM and get his take on the situation.

I've been looking at Olympia--seems to be a pretty decent place. Any suggestions for other areas close to Murray? I think my preference would be to stay away from the Tacoma/Seattle side.

numbers,
I'm looking for units that would consider someone who needs an age waiver and is willing to make a long-term relocation. I just wanted to get an idea of what the unit's like, how much of a pilot shortage, if any, they have, things like that. A good information contact would be helpful too.

Olympia is good. Lacey or Dupont would be OK too. The farther north you get, the more expensive it is and the worse traffic is as well. I will PM you my OSM's stuff.

The unit itself is a pretty solid unit. I know they take their training seriously. Not sure about the flight hours or pilot #'s or any of that. I don't know if you've ever been to Tucson; Its not a bad place to live; I grew up there. I'll have to look around and see if I can get a number.

traffic, you have a SERE date yet?

Did you know Sean Sojourner? He was the Ammo NCO at WATTS, at one time. He was one of my Troops with 1058th Ord Co in the AZNG. He's now a SGM.

Not ringing a bell. I worked in the armament/avionics shop. Most the people I knew were there during, or right before the most recent time 285 deployed.

He was probably HQ Co AZNG 1SG back then.

SGM Sojourner is at BDE now, in the 98th Troop Command here in Phoenix. He was my old 1SG when we were in the 982nd Troop Commmand, before the 2/285th came about.
