hello all,

i am new to this board and an aspiring civilian WOFT candidate. my packet is coming together quickly but i have some questions concerning LORs and overall competitiveness that I could not find answered using the search feature.

i have read conflicting information stating that at least one letter needs to come from a CW3 or higher army aviation officer.

first, is this the case for a civilian applicant? does anyone know a non-obnoxious way to meet and get to know an army aviator? i would be willing to buy a lunch, lol.

second, i have a LOR from an 0-7 naval aviator. would this work (and work well) as my aviator letter?

the rest of my packet info is as follows

MA in Political Science with 3.9 GPA
BA in Intl Relations with 3.2 GPA

extensive residency abroad, fluent in arabic and german

99 ASVAB
140 GT

220 PT test :-(

awaiting AFAST test.

if anyone has any off-the-cuff ideas about my chances, feel free to share them.

thanks

OLM

I think you'll do great and that because the Army Aviator letter is optional anyway, your O7 letter would be an adequate substitute.

Good job on your degrees and GPA,

Great ASVAB (I hate you now lol).

how did you get a 140 GT (I didn't think they went that high),

and the PT test can be improved. Brain power cannot. I would rather be you than a PT stud with average scores, but really, both make it in.

Someone with average aptitudes/academics/PT, though, I would worry.

thanks for the advice to both of you/

FYI TrafficMP, i think mr. motivated said he'd rather have the high test scores (i'd rather be you than a PT stud), not the other way around.

either way, i am studying my butt off for this AFAST test and hoping to bump my PT up to 240 or 250 before i take the official one with my recruiter. we shall see.

I have a question with a MA in IR/and the languages you speak why WOFT? Why not OCS get MI or work for some super agency?
The reason I ask is those are my degrees I am going for as warrant and trying to get those jobs on the outside.

for a couple of reasons, most of which i detail in my essay and board question prep lol. one, branching MI from OCS is no sure thing and two, AV is the best job in the army from what i've heard. as for the "super agencies," i don't want to be in a room listening to taped phone conversations for the next 5 years and w/o military experience that's most likely what i'd end up doing. also, my path to a TS/SCI is going to be slow because I've spent a lot of time in weird places of the world as a civilian.
btw do you fly helos as a wo?

JS,

Don't confuse the requirements for military applicants with the requirements for civilian applicants. The guidance for LORs should be here, but you can see it over here instead. They may be revising the page because of the upgraded requirements (GT 110, AFAST 110), but these others are not likely to change.

The applicable statements are:
quote:
You will have to provide a copy of your high school and college diplomas and transcripts, references from no more than 6 of your closest friends in as high a position within the community as possible. Your references should include community service, volunteer work, character, physical ability, scholarly and leadership traits.
Your letter from the Admiral will be just fine. One down, five to go. Good luck!
