Too bad dude, you are too old. They like "younger applicants with 6-10 years of service" ... 30 yr old PFCs 32 yr old SPCs are no good for Uncle Sam.

Just yanking your chain. Get your LASIK paperwork to the flight surgeon and LASIK is waived as long as you meet the physical criteria.

I'll drop my packet either way. won't hurt to toss my hat in the ring. I just wanted to know a lil more about the flight physical. Working for the DCG doesnt help does it?

Sure it wouldn't hurt. I am in the same boat with you, almost 32, 5 years in, E-4. Got re-assigned many times and every unit starts me from scratch almost, no E-5 in the horizon yet. Plus my MOS is way overstrength. So considering the competitive nature of the board, if you are not going to get selected, that would only mean other applicants' packets will have less time before the board. But I hear you, you are not getting any younger. When do you get E4?

i'm getting it here in june. and i'm shooting for the sep board. Everyone i talk to around the unit says being here and having the LoR's from whom i have them from my chances are really high. I've been lucky so far meeting the people i have met and working in one of the S shops at the battallion level. the Lt Col and CW5 that are writing my LoR are down the hall. ive got a 112 gt should be 120 but i have to get that straightened out at personnel. my afast is 131 and my pt is 284. i'm just trying to keep a good work ethic and positive attitude and let the rest happen. just sucks i may bolo on the flight physical for my eyes or even something stupid like Blood pressure.

Your scores are good, in fact better than me. Read this:
http://www.idahoarmyguard.org/ArmyAviation/Aviation/Sel.../RefraSurgeryAPL.pdf

Get SPC and put the packet in. Don't worry about the flight physical, if you do see better than 20/50 you should be good to go.

thanks a lot bro! i appreciate all the info. i hate not knowing stuff lol and it seems theres a limited amount of info out there and alot of miss-information. like to day i heard that the active army is picking up 1500 pilots this year and 2000 next year even though WOFT is jampacked. I did in-process about 13 IAR pilots that just got called back into AD.

Um, no. The brief we got from branch was 400 pilots from AD, period, this year. Civilian applicant accessions were cut by 75%.

Hee-haw! I had the opportunity to meet another civilian selectee, who was better qualified than myself in many ways. This is good news for Army Aviation.

They select about 43 people from enlisted ranks each board and there are 6 boards a year. Do the math. For us enlisted, it is competitive. In a situation like this, it is all about who has better numbers. Trying a Guard unit is another option, after you are done with your contract, if you really want to do this.

yeah i was really speaking on the miss-info you hear about flight. I check the milpers announcements so i can see that there's no way 1.5 or 2k is even possible. just got back from the Aviation ball tonight too. SMA Preston was the guest Speaker. Real Stand-Up guy! Cleared up alot of the miss-information though talking to some of the Wo's and NCO's there.
