hey all i was wondering where i could be assigned after flight school? I tried looking for a list or directory on the net but it doesnt tel you where these units are. does anyone know where i could find something? thanks alot!
It'll be based on your assigned airframe, the needs of the army, and your preference list in pretty much that order. You won't really have an idea of where you're going to go until the end of flight school. If you haven't even started yet, I guess you could end up anywhere there is an Army helicopter. You've got a lot of time to research that, I suppose.
I usually go to the Aviation Branch enlisted page at HRC and look at the list of posts available to enlisted maintainers of each aircraft. Pretty strong correlation there.

A few questions for you. How many washouts did you have in WOCS? If the washouts had no prior service, were they released from active duty or did they serve out their contract enlisted?
How old are you? Seems you waited late to get into the game. Have fun and patience in flight school.
I'm sorry, Evan (aka hrntpilot) is currently indisposed for the next three weeks at SERE. Please leave a message at the beep.
Poor b@stard. Hope it dries out for him by the weekend. The fire building PE's should be fun with all the rain we've had. Maybe they might actually use those cotton balls after all.
over 14" of rain in the last ten days. I feel so bad for those guys. Well he should be back at the barracks so at least it's almost over for him. Didn't they make it a 4 week course now though? Hey traffic, you're in Samurai flight right? That was my flight too. I finally got to check out of there yesterday.
Still not a 4 week course. I believe he started the S & E portion of the course today (Saturday) since he reported on Monday. Looking at the rivers crossing the bridges coming back from Shell, they are going to have a hell of a time with the "waist deep" fording of the rivers rule. I foresee some serious detours in their future. At least there is no lack of water. It should be pretty clean, too.
Yep, Samurai. I am reserving judgment on the program until Tuesday after my first route plan gets shot to $hit. I was having a blast in Instruments....
you're crazy. I couldn't wait to get out of Instruments. Not that it was too difficult or anything but man is that kind of flying boring. Route planning isn't all that hard, and I find navigating from the air to be easier than land nav on foot. You can see a whole heck of a lot more and it's easier to orient yourself. just stay ahead of the a/c. I should select on Wednesday, I'll let you all know how it goes down.
Most of my route planning is AMPS, AMPS, AMPS followed by transcribing the necessary data to the map. I am missing DTED and the TH-67 PPC for AMPS, so at least it keeps me honest in the fuel and altitude calculations.
How many people failed the PT Test, if you even took one?
Well, until you're here, you really can't get a feel for the schedule. It's not that people are out of shape, it is that they are in worse shape than they were when they started.
It simply boils down to choice and consequence. Do you want to get really good grades and do well on your check rides, or do you want to do OK, have more time for yourself and maintain your PT score? A lot of folks choose the prior and suffer a little bit on PT. You simply don't have enough time in a day to do EVERYTHING so you pick and choose what you want to focus on and take the hits where they come.
However, during the last month of IERW everyone PT's their a$$ off. I don't care who you are.
They say the minimum is 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. Just to be sure I can get it all in, I include the weekends as part of my PT week which runs Saturday through Wednesday. It allows me enough time during the weekends to get done what I need to get done, and have an effective workout plan that I can spend a little extra time on if I need to. Plus, by Thursday and Friday I am usually on the verge of burnout for the week and don't really have the motivation to beat myself up.
You will hear some say that the current version of flight school was designed by a group of folks who have never been to flight school or forgot what it was like to go through it. Sometimes, late at night in the middle of daily questions and flight planning, I am inclined to agree with them.
No one in my section failed and only one failed in the other so I guess that's better than the last few classes.
nwmountaintroll- you would be suprised at how fast your run suffers after not really doing much to maintain it for close to 8 months. That is the event that pretty much everyone fails. There's that and theres also the fact that not everyone here is exactly cream of the crop to begin with. You would think that this whole selection process would weed 'em out, but man I meet some serious mouth breathers on a daily basis. Most of them are transfers from the AF.
