Met a CW2 ARNG aviator yesterday and stated you can not wear the aviator badge on the uniform. Is that true for cloth wings as well?

What is the Army's reasoning, if that's the case?

You can wear skill badges on the ACU's but not on the A2CU's(flight suit). Cloth badges are a thing of the past, they are no longer authorized for wear. Why? I don't know, I would love to be able to sew my bolo badges on my uniforms. The metal ones are worthless, I don't even bother putting them on anymore. Not that I wear ACU's much anymore anyway, but it still chaps my a$$ a little.

A little off topic, but do Army Aviators only wear the A2CU's or is there a more traditional jump suit style? Reason I ask is that I've never seen an Army one, only Air Force but I've seen them shown in movies and never really knew if that was accurate.

Yeah, my wings were pinned on by the USAALS CSM during my graduation from AIT, so I'm guessing your CW2 friend is misinformed.

However, as a mechanic, we don't wear our wings on our uniforms, as they are potential FOD should they fall off (dammits are known to fail often). That, and everyone in my unit has the same wings, so it's not like we have to wear them to prove anything.

However, I do wear them whenever I'm not going to be working on helicopters. The shiny silver ones look really good on dress uniforms too! Wink

No wings on the A2s, somone might confuse you for an aviator.

As for the A2's vs the flightsuits, starting in September the only acceptable flight uniform will be the A2s, as of now you can wear 1 peice flight suits or the older two-piece versions along with the A2's. Here at Rucker only the guard guys can wear flightsuits.

Being a simple old soldier, let me understand this.

If you're an active duty army aviator, in the near future you must fly in the A2CU. Virtue of wearing the A2CU uniform, you can not display your aviator wings.

But, if you're an infantryman wearing the ACU, you can wear your CIB is that correct?

Tell me it ain't so.

Not 100% true about who is still wearing them at Rucker. The DAC's are still wearing them on the flight line at Lowe.

We were told that if we (active duty guys) were wearing anything other than A2s at Carins it would be our asses, that came from a W-4 out there, that's where my info on the one piece vs. two piece came from.

z,

You pretty much have defined the picture that the uniform policy-makers have painted for us. Equality at the cost of esprit de corps. Oh, yeah. And they make us wear that gay beret, too!

Concerning the non wearing of aviator/crewmember wings on the AACU, the Army definitely goes out of their way to be Army different from the other military services.

I guess the Army can take one more step and do away with flight pay.

Then, financial Equality will be truly reached with their earth bound brothers & sisters.

About the wear of the pickle by guard and reserve here at Rucker; Funny story actually. . .I had a CW5 "somebody" stop me the other day and order me to not wear the pickle any longer. He pointed in the exact direction of his rank and said "Did you get these when you got to Rucker?" I was somewhat confused and said "no." I was assuming he was talking about the CW5 rank. He then blew up and said that no one in flight school started without being issued A2CUs. I then gained clarity and made up for my initial shortcoming. At this exact same time a Guard 1LT and 2LT walked by in the pickle, he stopped them and gave them a suggestion to stop wearing the pickle. Bottom line: the pickle wear out date is in Sept. and unless an official policy letter comes out, we can wear them until that date.
And I have worn both and the A2CU blows compared to the pickle or the old ABDU. IMHO.

There is a new CW5 with a Sgt. Maj. complex running around rucker right now chewing guard students asses for wearing their pickle suits I've had a couple of my friends run into him already. Not sure why he has such a ***** for the pickle suits. I'm not even gonna bother wearing mine, its just not worth the head ache of having to talk to this guy.

The batt commander has a policy letter hanging on the wall up at 1/145 batt that states you are allowed to wear what was issued to you.

I've been wearing my pickle suit for the last two weeks out at Lowe with no problems. I wore it for 5 weeks prior to that in the MTP course at Lowe and Knox w/o anyone saying anything eiher.

I'll keep wearing it until September. I can't stand the A2CUs.
