I am looking for a good solid "estimate" for pilot training for a commissioned officer candidate. I know OCS is 14 weeks, and I know there are other courses required for AV officers beside flight training, bolc, sere. I am a federal law enforcement officer, and I am in the process for a new job(s). I might consider a new career track if the pilot training is too long, because I don't want to mess up my civilian career which is my primary means for living. I wanted to learn about the reality of the length of training.

For a hypothetical situation let's say I was going to be a black hawk pilot. How many months of training including bolc, sere, pilot school, etc are involved. I've seen estimates as high as 18 months.

OCS has been 12 weeks since the beginning of the fiscal year back in Oct 07. You hit the nail on the head. It could be from 15-18 months for Blackhawks. Flight school has been backed up for several years now since they went to Flight School XXI. And, the Army will increase pilot production in the foreseeable future.

Some Warrant Officers are being promoted to CW2 during flight school. And their warrant time doesn't start until after basic combat training and WOCS. (Must have two years in grade as a WO1 for CW2)

Good Luck and have patience in flight school.

18 months is a fair, no $hit estimate.

If you get hurt, do something dumb, etc., the wait only gets longer.

I got here in March 08 and will graduate 23 July (fly 60s). So that's what 16, 17 months. And I haven't had and really crazy long holds. It all depends on what you fly, if you get hurt etc. Also keep in mind that rumors have been going around about them combining BOLC IIIA and B so I'm not sure how that will affect the overall length. Probably not that significant. Now if you're a 64 guy you're looking at closer to 2 years. But by the time you get here they may have fixed FSXXI...HAHA

I've been here since November 07, 6 weeks of WOCS, currently on hold to fly 64's. I wont start class until October probably, add 22 weeks + another 3 for BOLOC IIIB (If they keep it as is), so I might be done around April/May of 2010.

Im just wondering because my packet goes in from of the July board (im shootin 64's and 58D's as a backup) and my wife is wondering if ill have alot more time home than I do now as an FO working 5:30am to 6:00pm. and she wants to know what to exspect with life for us at rucker

Except for SERE, you will be home every night by 6 assuming you don't get remedial library time.

In the hold, you will do a lot of mandatory studying, and, if you are smart, lots of PT. There are a lot of resources near B Co to help assure your success through primary flight training. You do get a lot of off time, which you should use to your advantage.
