How hard are waivers to come by for hearing here's what I scored. I scored two years ago. I am in ROTC and this upcoming summer I'll go to LDAC where I'll get my flight physical. I just want to know what to expect. If it would be easier to get a waiver by going the warrant officer route I'll do that in a heart beat. So if there's any knowledable pilots or especially flight surgeons out there please help me out. Thanks.
The 30 shift looks ok (probably a goof on your part), its the 55 you should be worried about. I agree, try retesting and try to lay off beig exposed to high intensity noises for a few days.
Also, make sure your inner ears are clean (use an earwax removal product) and dry. That will help a bit too. DO NOT USE Q-Tips.
This test wasn't for a flight physical it was just the physical I needed to get my ROTC scholarship and was two years ago. I was just curious as to what would happen. I definately will get tested at my flight physical this summer at LDAC. One other question is is it easier to get a waiver if I go the warrant route compared to the commisioned route? If so I'll drop my scholarship in a heart beat and go the warrant route. Thank you by the way.
The source of my hearing loss was a mastoid infection when I was in high school. They operated on it. Only ear infection I have ever had. The doctor said it was strange because normally people who have a mastoid infection have had a history of ear infections. The hearing loss I believe comes from the scar tissue in my mastoid bone, which dampens the sound vibrations. Thank you again for your response. Oh yeah Palmfish I think it was your unit that flew my ROTC battalion up into the mountains and back down again for our annual spring FTX. It was pretty cool thanks. TrafficMP thanks for the info on the ear wax remover, didn't even know it existed. I'm sure it will help. Thankx again.
Yes, we do a lot of ROTC support. I was also an APMS at Seattle Univ from 2002 through 2005 - didn't CWU host Ranger Challenge in 2005? Great catering IIRC.
I have a 50dB loss at 3-4KHz in both ears (from 20 years of flying), so I speak from experience when I say - religiously preserve the hearing that you do have.
