Right now I'm in the FA, and I'm considering re-classing to 15T, my question is, if you become a Crew chief do you still spend most of your time as a wrench turner? That is to say, are you still primarily a mechanic who happens to fly, or do you spend most of your time doing flight related stuff?
Hope this makes sense
thanks in advance

I was a crew chief a couple of years ago, when I was in you were responsible for your assigned acft. log book, parts ordered and installed, equipment, acft readiness, appearance, cleanliness, maintenance, you name it it was your baby! it wasn't just wear a flight suit and go fly around. if done right it takes alot more of your time than being in maintenance.

I was a gun bunny turned 15T and yes your primary duty is as a wrench turner. If you know the aircraft and are good at mechanics you will stand a better chance of making it to a flight slot faster. Even though you are primarly a mechanic if you make to a flight platoon you'll do plenty of flying. I made the switch and it was well worth it. Flying may be the main attraction but maintenance has its own rewards.
