Quick background.
I was enlisted 11B in the National Guard, joined ROTC (now SMP with an Infantry unit). I am a pilot at heart. Its what I want to do, and its what I've always wanted to do. A lot of people may say that, but I've been flying since I was thirteen (Im 20 now), and I've got a lot of various ratings/certificates in fixed wing aircraft. Here's the problem: Because I'm an idiot, and I didn't fully understand the program, I contracted with ROTC rather than applying for WOCS or OCS. Now, I'm stuck in this ridiculous lottery, and chances are I'm not going to get aviation through the accessions process. What are the chances of getting into flight school if I'm already an officer in another branch? I am going to commission, most likely armor, and I will serve for several years there. Does going to flight school as say a 1LT armor officer ever happen? Or am I screwed, and I should start trying to figure out how to fly helos in the civilian world? I appreciate any help you guys can give me. |

I believe you have two options. Firstly, apply to flight school before being selected for Capt. Secondly, apply for a WOFT slot. Either case, your branch must release you. You are still in the ballgame. Good Luck. |
