does it take to maintain a Blackhawk? How about a Chinook? Im wondering because 15T and 15U are in the Top 25 list of MOS I am interested in Smile. How many people would I be working with on a day to day basis to work on 1 helicopter? Because the Chinook has three crew chiefs (in wartime), would I make crew chief faster?

are mechanics in Iraq only stationed at big bases because of the space needed?

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I cannot speak about the CH-47, but all the UH-60s we had had one (1) crewchief per bird, and maintenace platoon had a few more, but they were always working on the something else on a day-to-day basis, so, rarely do they get to work with you.

Anyway, in a flight company, there is one per, but, if the maintenance requires more than more than one, then more than one will work on the acft.

In the Flight Platoon, on an average, we have 3 enlisted crew members per flight. One Flight Engineer, and two crewmembers. It takes all three to keep that bird up an running, too.

The Maintenance Platoon has anywhere from 12-25 people in it, all with different specialties. They are great! We couldn't do the job without them.

I'll be honest your the first person I've heard of studying for the ASVAB but definitely better to be prepared.

I wouldn't worry though, I did very well (129GT) and I can't even change the oil in my car. Get a good nights sleep prior to the test and you'll do fine.

as a 15t it depends on the type unit you are in. In an assault battalion you would probably start in a maintenance platoon doing medium to heavy maintenance. Usually the plt would have around 20 mechanics and you would work in 2 to 5 person teams depending on the task. If you go to a flight plt, you would probably have ten mechanics or so doing preventive and light maintenance. Usually working alone or with 1 or 2 other mechanics. You could also go to a intermidate maintenance unit doing heavey maintenance, with 20 or so people in larger teams.
